Post Grindhouse.
I saw this movie last week with my friend who had already seen it. I thought it ruled! He's already seen it three times now. The Robert R. film "Planet of Terror"(I think that was it's name) was funny as hell, and sick as balls. Deathproof was absolutely badass.

My friend told me that when he first saw the film, ppl were walking out on Deathproof because of it's "slow" start. He didn't know what to think of it at first, but after he went home, he said that the more he thought about it, the more he realized how awesome it was--and really wanted to see it again. People who walked out on Deathproof missed out!

Planet Terror was so fast-paced and crazy, that Deathproof didn't seem all that great at first, but I knew that Q.T. wasn't going to fuck around. He built it up nice. Zoe performed a stunt so freakin crazy that I actually applauded after it was over--I never do that, but it couldn't be helped.

Oh, and the previews! those alone were worth it! They were freakin' beautiful! They're actually going to make full-length feature film based of one of the trailers. That one should be funny as hell.

All in all, the most ass-kickin'est movies I've ever seen. EVER.

Anyone else get a chance to see it? any thoughts?

I think there's an existing thread about this already, I'm too lazy to go look for it and copy and paste it though. But yeah, ti rocked me. I like Rodriguez better over all, so I prefer Planet Terror, but appreciated Death Proof since I've seen so many of the movies that had influenced it. And the previews owned.

Planet Terror was disgustingly great. One of the best movies I've seen in quite some time. Deathproof, hmm... I love Tarantino, but some of the dialogue (and the length of it) really killed me. The scenes where the girls would talk about stupid shit for what seemed like 20 minutes bored me half to sleep. Again, I love Tarantino and Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie of all time, but that movie could have been better.

From what I've heard, the preview featuring Danny Trejo will be the one that becomes a feature-length. That will be wonderous.

I also discussed it a little and how it unfortunately flopped in this thread:

hmm...I heard that if they decide to make another "grindhouse", that they were thinking about showing them separately. I don't know how true that bit of info is, but if it is true, I think that would be LAME-O.

I really appreciated how seemingly unapologetic these films were. If it's not doing so well in theaters right now, I expect it to whoop ass when it goes to DVD. Some of the people I've talked to about it want to see it, but they just don't want to be in the theater all day.

I really, highly doubt that anyone would attempt to make a sequel to this. it only made 11 million at the box office opening weekend, when it was expected to make over 20 million.

the films that it's paying homage to are the kinds of films I watch all the time, almost on a daily basis. so for a total movie geek like me, it was gold. but to the average American moviegoer, I just don't think they unfortunately understood it.

I really think that it needed that running time. I mean, they were trying to put the showmanship back into going to the movies. once again, I dont' think the American people want that anymore. they want to go, talk on their cell phone through the movie, and go home. hell, what they really want is to not go to the theater at all but just download movies right to their TVs instead. that's unfortunately where things are headed.

I just can't wait until the word "Grindhouse" stops getting thrown around as a buzzword though. now every jackass TV entertainment reporter is going to call any bad movie a "grindhouse" film, when they aren't.
