Post New Bookcase = More Space
Hello, it's been quite awhile since I've posted anything significant. Recently my girlfriend purchased some Cubits shelving from a DWR clearance/sample sale, so now we've got a giant blue bookcase in the room. A perfect opportunity to arrange the multitude of toys since my last Show Your Collection post:
http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic.php?p=59295

So I think I mentioned I was happy with only a few toys in my last post…

Some parts of the display haven't changed much.

Others have more figs added.

Harlock is on a different level of the bookcase, but this is one of my favorite recent toy buys.
Image

For cometdebris, here's a pic of the Sesame Street Little People. I think the Cookie Monster is probably my favorite Little People figure of all time. Perfect abstraction.
Image

Here's a pic of the right side, which I'm not really happy with yet. This will probably undergo major surgery in the near future.

Very nice. Dig the new new shelves -- the blue looks rad (didn't know they came in that color). I was impressed when you originally posted your previous pix. I tried (in vain) to emulate your purchasing restraint.

But now I see it was all a lie!! ;)

I love collections just smashed together. But it has a method too, I love the over all set up, it's kinda how I hope to get my stuff, when I get more space. Cabs are nice and all, but they just seem so sterile, awesome!

By the way, where'd you get the book case, it looks so cool, blue plastic?

Books and toys and paintings and prints. It all has a great feel to it.

I'll echo BloodDrinker that glass cabinets can have a sterile formal feel to them.
Forces one to arrange stuff in cube environments.

I like how everything is sort of organically arranged, sprawling out in all directions and kind of integrated into your space rather than displayed behind glass. Gives it more immediacy.

What a great colorful collection ... fun pictures. I like this way of displaying toys ... living with them, as opposed to caging them up in a Detolf. Hm, now I'm reconsidering whether I even want display cases. Maybe just more shelves. Thanks for posting the pics!

Dusting must be a I FART A LOT, but that's the price you pay.
But it also gives you an excuse to touch everything and rearrange if necessary.

Hello everyone, thanks for taking a look. I just added two more pics. I didn't post these initially since I figured most people would be more interested in the kaiju.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I like this way of displaying as it reminds me of tiny cramped Japanese toystores that are filled to the gills from floor to ceiling with toys, though I don't think I'd ever want things to get that crowded, though they might…

I'll try to answer most of the questions now:

The painting of the Little People lion was done by Bwana Spoons. As is the one the Smoking Corps guys are standing on. Anyone have any idea where to get Bwana's recent shoes? I have to get a pair.

The Cubits bookcase we got from Design Within Reach (not really within reach as we had to wait for a sample/clearance sale to get this). Apparently this particular color is being discontinued along with pink and lime. This was part of a kids' line I believe. I think some stores may still have this color. The standard white, orange and 'ice' should still be available.

The Captain Harlock figure, I only have sketchy info on. I got this off Yahoo Japan and the listing said they guessed it was from the 70s. It's made by Takara. It's a cool little vinyl action figure with removable belt with both a plastic cosmo dragoon and gravity sabre. My favorite part is the removable cloth cape. The only site I've even seen a pic or info about this toy is the Captain Harlock Toy Page. I wish this one came with the packaging as it looks amazing:

http://geoffreypeeters.tripod.com/albactionfig.jpg
If anyone has any info at all about this toy, I'd love to hear about it.

As for Action Bastard/Action Kamen, I think there's a few on Yahoo Japan currently. I don't think this is too hard to find. What was tough for me was getting a Kantam Robo (not sure if it has a different US name like Action Bastard) that's also from Crayon Shin-Chan. Ever since I saw it at Thrash Out, I've wanted one. I looked on Yahoo Japan forever, but it had crazy expensive prices, so I held off. It took me years, and then I happened to check eBay recently on a whim and there it was in an eBay store, just sitting there all this time! And for cheap too.

I didn't paint the Ghosts and Goblins it was a gift.

Yeah, it's the pic with all the standard size Zags and Hedorans in it. It's inbetween the monochrome Mechabot and Getter 2. It's mean and green. Reminds me of the mecha from Xabungle, though its name is a parody on Gundam.
