Fixed. ;p

And before someone asks, that picture liquidsky posted is of the late Jim Chapin with a set of vintage IKB toys.

There needs to be a Wikipedia entry on all of these old unlicensed kaiju and the modern-day toys they inspired.

A most excellent idea. I've been thinking for some time that a few history FAQs would be helpful and would enhance the hobby for many. I wish I had the knowledge that many of you have!

That is a great picture of Mr. Chapin and toys.

rfsowiki.com anyone? I was thinking about starting some kind of site but I dont have nearly enough knowledge and I dont think wikipedia would be happy about us making a page for each of the hundreds of figures.

I could probably start it. I have a host and you just need the wiki code and throw it up as it's own encyclopedia for you to add entries.

If you guys would use it i'd make it.

It's something that's worth doing, because there are hundreds of modern Japanese vinyl toys by small outlets like Gargamel, Secret Base, Dream Rocket, etc. and there aren't any ongoing English-language resources to catalogue them.

Super7 has provided a great base with their articles (and whoever contributes to any wiki should respect their copyrights and not duplicate their text and photos), and hopefully the upcoming mooks will update those articles, but unfortunately the liability of print is that once it hits the press, it's permanent and immutable.

It would be neat to see. Maybe the hosts of this site would be interested in setting something up that they could incorporate with the Super7 store and/or some sort of revenue-generating relevant ads.

I'd certainly use it. canibeonthelist.com is good but there's no way for it to cover all lines like a user editable site could. A lot of info gets posted but isn't very easy to find after a few months.

Looks like Chris beat you to the punch, decypher.

I wouldn't use "RFSO" on anything without consulting Ramos. It's his thing.

Looks good. I made a simple page for Gargamel to test it out and it seems to work well. It'd be really useful if this catches on so make sure to pass it along.

Three things that are going to be important:

- Organization: you want every manufacturer and product listing to be easy to read and find.
- Consistency: Each page should have the same information presented in the same way.
- Detail: Making sure that each page is descriptive enough including things like kanji, sizes of products, etc.

Also, don't steal pictures or information from people without permission. That will only get you in trouble. ;p

One thing that might speed things up if anyone is interested is that a few people who've cataloged their collections on flickr could license their toy photos under a license like Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License. Which would allow the wiki to use the photos as needed.

Yeh creative commons is a great thing. Lots of artists and muscians have licensed their stuff out for free use.

Feel free to use my Flickr photos. I chose a Creative Commons license, but I think it only applies to photos I upload from now on.

I made a thread in the whatever forum since I figured more people would see it there. It would probably be helpful if there was a set of rules (ie. can we just take photos from random yja auctions or not?) just so that everyone is on the same page.

Ain't it cool? Every time someone gives me one of those stupid "but you're too old to collect toys!" looks, I'm going to remember this photo. :-)

I think you need to fix the link in that post.

And no, it shouldn't be okay to take pictures from YJA auctions, unless you get permission.
