 Ebay bidding
Just curious what people's thoughts are on bidding days in advance to a auction's end?. Its insane how some people will bid a dozen times in a row until they are the top bidder, while driving the price up.....with several days left in the auction. Is that like a dominance thing? trying to scare people off or a claiming ritual like "PM SENT!"
I just think some of that stuff plays in the market prices getting out of hand, and the reason I bring it up here is I happen to notice several board members who bid CRAZY style pre-maturely. I just don't see the logic in it at all, and you never know, patience may get you that item for half what you bid.
Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with you. If I REALLY want something, I'm waiting until the last second. Usually, I alway get it.

It depends. Sometimes I say to myself "I won't pay more than X amount" and just put in that max bid, no harm right? If I'm beaten at the end, than someone wanted to pay more. But sometimes I wait until the very last min. to bid because I don't know how much the item is REALLY worth and how much I can get it for, so i wait to see where it's at.

To state the obvious, it only got driven up so high because the high bidder put in a crazy-high bid and s_n kept testing to find the ceiling, then gave up. For now.
I'm not sure how to feel about that price. It is an older, rarer Blob and it does come with that ROM, but my first reaction is that the high bid is a bit much. Seems Blobpus popularity is undergoing a big resurgence right now. Just a few months ago I was able to land excellent Blobs at reasonable prices. More recently there seems to be a lot of Blob-frenzy.

I've always been confused by the multi bid routine. What the hell are these people accomplishing? Why not figure out what you're willing to spend and just place your bid?
Bidding multiple times only to see whether your next bid actually puts you on top seems bizarre. In all honesty this has pissed me off in the past and I have a lot more respect for somebody that just bids what they think it's worth to them and lets it play out.

wow, that's a lot for that blob, but I bet it goes higher....
I think the guys that do the multiple bidding are trying to gauge what their snipe should be. They don't want to bust out with a snipe that's too low.

Heh, at least he has the courtesy to PM you. I keep getting outbid on auctions by the same RFSO member, over and over again. My fault though ... I haven't PM'd them to ask them if they're willing to back off.
EDIT: ACK! I tried to change my eBay user ID, only to find out that someone else is already "xoconostle." Hopefully they're not a kaiju person. Well, I'm now "locoxoco."
We need a new "list" for those who would choose to honor it. Not sure if the site management would be willing to sticky one for us.

I'm pretty much insane about bidding. When there is something I really want, I'll bid way more than it's worth to make sure I get it. One bid, super fucking high, and if someone can top it, I just don't deserve it as much as they do.
This creeping up by the dollar thing is a sign of non-committal and cowardice. Pretty harsh words though, considering you're bidding on a toy. I may just ruin everyone's dreams with this Blobpus auction

I usually just bid once and that's what I'm willing to pay... doesn't matter when that is in the listing... that way if I win it's great and if I don't then that means someone was willing to pay more than I was... so it's all good.

Huh? What would sway the guy on Saturday? No problem, if I decide I want to go for it I'll either win it or make some poor soul pay out the ass for it...

I am the high bidder on Tex's blob.
Obviously it's a high price for a chunk of vinyl, but it's one of the few I need to complete my collection...also it's pretty cool in general.
I have no idea what Mr. Nips is trying to do...especially since he owes me money for an auction of mine he won.

Mea culpa then. I was wrong about the high bidder's identity.
