 gunshots
@ 2:30 in the morning. at least 15-20 of them right outside my apartment in 3 separate bursts. shit was scary. i grabbed my dog and laid on top of him. now its bright as day out side between all of the cop cars and the helicopter circling over head. i cant even watch Rome because its way too loud out there.

i've had this happen, on smaller scale. Skylar will tell you about a story when we first started dating and i heard them right outside my open 2nd floor window, and instead of getting scared, i said in a groggy half-sleep "nuh uh! you have to be kidding me"
i also came home one day to my apartment roped off in police tape. the neighbors said 2 junior high/high school kids had shot each other on my steps. Good old philly.
now i live in a fancy downtown condo w/ a doorman...but i still hear unsavory shit here.
i'm glad you & mugger are ok!

yeah dude, totally sucks when some scary shit like that happens.
one of our friends that lives in the building told me once how she saw a drive by on the highway that runs next to our building while she was looking out her window. and we live literally across the street from a police station.
I hate this crazy world

I have lived most of my life in two of the most dangerous cities in the U.S., Detroit and New Orleans.
This all sounds pretty familiar.
BUT, I have lived in Ithaca NY for the past 2 years, and it is a complete reversal. This is an incredibly safe place. It's sort of surreal.
Come August, I am going to be moving to L.A. Back to the real world!!!

Totally sucks, havingmysay. I've had to deal with that same kind of thing periodically and I know how nerve-wracking it can be.
I live on the edge of NorteƱo territory, Mission District SF. When I first moved into the 'hood, some of the N-XIV homies got it into their head that I was an undercover narc. One of 'em, obviously not a bright bulb, saw my iPod earphones and walked up to me and said "nice walkie-talkie. We're watching you too, and it's only a matter of time until we catch up." Seen some really weird stuff those dudes do to intimidate people. Fortunately they just ignore me now, but for a couple of months it was spooky. Life in da big city ...

We found a dead body covered in blood in my breezeway a few years ago in NY.
He got all stabbed up.

I was at some stupid club last year and a fight broke out and 2 people got shot, one died, that sucked. Another time when I was younger we were out in some ally behind a house that was having a party and some guys came and the guy who was having the party tried to kick them out but they shot him in the leg.
It is crazy what people will shoot or stab someone over, it's bullshit.

Two really bad experiences...
1. Detroit. New Year's eve, death metal party, out of 101 Turkey. I'm the only 1 "relatively" sober, so me and a friend go to the convenience store, get the goods, walk out into a shoot out! In front of our eyes, cop 1, dead thug zero.
2. New Orleans. Cool night in the quarter, decided to catch Black Mountain at the Circle Bar, guy comes in and holds up the place. Crazy ass fans jump him and his gun goes off, thankfully no one was dead.

An "Aquantience" of mine noticed a foul stench from an apartment under his a few years back in Bedsty, NY.
It had been stinking for weeks and the slumlord was not about to deal w/ it.
So these spineless fucks broke into dudes house, stole his tv and the remote from his cold dead hands...
they going to hell.

Im just gonna keep going:
I worked at a coffee shop a few years back..
A customer went into the bathroom, 45min went by and he never came back out.
I knocked on the door - no reply.
Upon entering the room I found a dead body, sprawled on the floor with the syrange still in his arm. and his pants around his ankles..
fukin grusome.
PS I know these stories dont include guns or gunshots, but are too eye-opening not to share.

Someone was murdered 3 blocks away from the store yesterday. It was my day off, but I had to come to the neighborhood to meet up with my girlfriend. I noticed a few police cruisers and the corner blocked off with police tape. This kind of shit is a total bummer.

Yeah Joe, been reading about that today. Seems some violence in the Western Addition is a constant, but as I understand the murder rate has gone waaaaay down in recent years, maybe partially because they tore down a lot of the projects and replaced them with the newer "nice projects." It helped in the Fillmore and Hayes Valley areas. 19 years old, sheesh.
In the late 80s I lived on McAllister near the Western Addition ... sirens every night, gunshots almost every night. There was so much tension on the streets. It's so much better now but shit still happens.

with the whole michael vick shit going on i've been really bummed on the current 'who cares they're just dogs/animals' attitude that i'm finding a lot of people have. animal abuse is disgusting. i'd much rather see and marvel over pics or video of that boar alive instead of slaughtered by some fuckin hilly billy shit kid.
