Just got back from the show. The new paintings kill. Even after seeing the web preview I was surprised and impressed by all the pieces. The massive 30ft(?) mega-WarDragon is awesome -- actual kaiju size!! And the clear/stuffed standard WarDragons (@ $650) are rad. That's a lot of money for a toy but after seeing it, I'd say it's worth it (if it's within your budget). btw, it weighs like 2lbs.

So the WarDragons are really $650 and not $800? Even more tempting.

when you think that the kaws woodden bearbricks just sold out in a flash at $500 each, i dont se whats unreasonable about $650 for these. the bearbricks to start with are mass porduced platform toy that kaws has just dyed black and put X's in for eyes. the wardragons are all hand painted, all the stuff inside was hand made and stuffed, at $150 more, i wouldsay there is nothing wrong with that price. i personally cant afford it but if i did have that kind of money, id much rather spend it on the war dragon than a wodden bear

The price for the Dragamel isn't unreasonable if they were all hand painted by Tim B. and include for the first time all the crazy cool custom Cracker Jack guns.
Way back I purchased the Samurai Jack silkscreen by Tim for around $450 and felt it was well worth it. When I received the Silkscreen Tim had also doodled all around it so it became a limited edition/original art piece combo...sort of like these Drags.

My first post here. I went to the ether show, saw all of the paintings close up. Photos don't do it justice. They are diabolical. I think $650 is a lot for a toy. But it's beautiful. It's first class. It's heavy!

It's on my living room shelf!

I only decided against this one because it's a clear vinyl. The price is higher than I would have expected, but not a lot. But in my experience, clear vinyl yellows - quickly on display or slowly in storage, but inexorably ...and for a long-term holding, it just didn't strike me right. (The blue Ceramic Stack Pack was exactly the same price/edition size, and I think that set's a superb piece - one of his very best.)

If he'd done these in translucent colored vinyl like (75% of) the Rainbow Army, I'd've pulled the trigger for sure - I anguished hard over declining this, even with the concern over the clear. I know Tim is picky about materials etc., but I've gotten a bit gunshy about clear, and at this price ... well, nope.

But I think the Ether paintings are truly outstanding (even on line). I read the interview where TJB said some of the imagery that was coming outta the brush scared even him, but it sure can't be said that he's walling off his art from his life: It looks like every high and low is right there - the man leaves no scab unpicked.

Has anyone seen any reviews of the Ether show in the local-LA or national-Art press? I'd love to have the links, if so.

[quote="redhanded"]I love Tims stuff, but for 'art' at that price it better make breakfast the next morning and void the 'no kisses on the mouth' rule

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the translucent vinyl thing its possible Tim wanted it to yellow over time.

Theres optional larger swords to run through it, the weapons might scratch it or the gunmetal finish might rub off.

I have no idea what he was thinking but he could very well have wanted it to take a bit of punishment.

Its a War Dragon I'd maybe want it to get a bit beat up because of its very nature (filled with metal, clear uncolored vinyl, mutilated Dragamels). Just a thought.

I'd not have passed on that but to each his/her own.

This is why I try steer clear of clears too . . the aging, whilst completely natural and expected it just looks kinda crappy on a shelf full of vivid colours and clean finished pieces (IMO)

my clear bxh are yellowed, but not severely. i was not their first owner so i can't change the past, but i make sure to take great care of them now.
i don't mind, its just part of the character of the toy and their history? it sort of makes them special in a weird way (i know, that sounds strange lol)

but i admit, in case of a brand new toy with this pricetag? it would be REALLY painful to watch it yellow ><

How do you recommend I take care of them to stop them from yellow, or at least to minimize it?

not much you can do. Keep it out of the sun (any light really) and don't smoke around it.

If you wanna go the extra mile get a case that has some UV coating on it.

Killer photos.

Toys age. I've grown to accept it. Yeah, this is probably more like an art piece than a toy, but even art ages despite being museum conditions.

Nothing lasts forever.
If you can't chance it to age, maybe you're on the wrong side of the pool.
