As much as I don't wish this movie on anyone, if anyone else bothers to see it I would be curious to hear your thoughts...

The advertising for this on XM has been interesting. You get to hear Deep Voice Movie Trailer Guy say, "It will scare the shit out of you."

From what I've read and heard about the movie I think it should be alright.

I can't wait to see Transformers - I'm seeing it on the 12th of June, woohoo!

It's being mis-marketed in the extreme As a result, audiences are going with the wrong expectations ... not their fault. It's a stagey psychological thriller that is intentionally over-the-top in some ways. It's a lot like a Cronenberg movie, and may have been better if he had directed it. Still, I thought it was pretty great it its own bizarre way, basically as a satire of belief-as-madness. However, the audience I saw it with didn't appear to "get it" at all, and were laughing derisively at every little thing ... too bad. Oh well, this one is definitely not for everyone. It's more like a little art house film than the populist horror that it's being mis-advertised as.

Very mis-marketed. Although, I went to it without knowing much of anything about it and a open mind. I thought I briefly caught a few seconds of a trailer and generally thought it had something to do with bugs. After the first 1/3rd it became apparent it was going to be more of a "psychological thriller" of sorts. Same types of people were in my audience laughing etc... but I understood where it was going and what it seemingly was supposed to be, but thats what made it worse. I think they did a TERRIBLE job...even as a "art house" attempt or whatever people want to categorize it as. I looked at it from all angles and I can honestly say im shocked that 1. it some how got funded, 2. they are charging people to see this crap, 3. there should almost be a warning to people buying tickets.

I honestly think the point of this was more like a psychological experiment on the viewers. I got EXTREMELY irritable, and even felt like I was going to be sick it was so pointless and frustrating. I rode it out though thinking something was going to happen or some amazing ending atleast.....you could have called that ending almost half-way through the movie, lame as they come. The first 20 mins kept my attention in a some-what good way and I liked the way it was shot, however you later realise (IMO) everything up until "they do it" was basically pointless.

Has a huge movie lover I just had to vent and get feedback on this, I have never had such a terrible movie watching experience. Up until now I thought stuff like Date Movie/Epic Movie was as bad as they come.....this one disgusted me to no end. And the reviewers speaking of Oscars, and how amazing certain parts were floors me. One reviewer said Linda Blair was like a ballerina compared to the "amazing" seizure scene!???!?...........

They managed to ruin that as well...and hardly steamy..

I'd suggest going with lowered expectations, or none at all. It's soooo wrong that they're marketing this as an Exorcist-like thriller. There is an allusion to that movie (as well as a repeated allusion to Apocalypse Now) and there's a reason for that ... but it's not what the ads make it look like.

The marketing for this movie almost ensured poor "word of mouth." On the other hand, if they didn't cynically mislead the masses, this movie would have been a very, very tough sell for mainstream audiences.

Anyway, I still think it's one of the more interesting movies out there right now. I'm glad I went to see it instead of the latest "Pirates" mess.

hehe, i kind of just meant... when something is so horrible or causes such a impassioned response in people, its always fun to see for yourself.

Thats why I almost want people to see it, so maybe they can understand and I don't have to go crazy alone haha!. I just refer to it as a spectacle, but I refuse to call it a movie....it's just ugh

Yea, I actually noticed some people giving respect to Lions Gate for having the balls to release this in theatres, but to me ballsy would have been advertising it for what it really is. Then again, imo, I don't see what kind of trailer you could put together to properly represent it?.

Anyone ever encounter a speed freak who was convinced that the FBI or CIA was hounding them? A conspiracy theorist who found documentation of some nasty MKULTRA experiments, then convinced themself that they can connect the dots all the way from the JFK assasination to 9/11? Anyone ever known a religious zealout who was absolutely 100% convinced that they knew the truth, even though their truth contradicted some other religious zealot's truth 100%? Ever read that there's something really, really weird and coincidental about the number 23, only to then find 23s popping up all over the place? How do you know with certainty what you know? What role does disinformation, both intended and unintended, play into our daily unquestioned beliefs?

If you think that the fact that BUG reminded me of these sorts of issues means that I'm reading too much into the themes of a problematic or even a bad film, perhaps you're correct, but BUG did prompt me to consider the nature of belief and the fact that fundamental conviction can be as devastating as it can also provide order and consensus reality ... at what cost?

Probably not, the movie is a screen adaptation of a theatrical play. The Hollywood hype machine is the entity pushing it like a drive-in horror flick.
