Post Transformers Movie!
So because I manage a cinema, tonight I was fortunate enough to attend the Australian premiere of Transformers...

Michael Bay, Megan Fox (HUBBA HUBBA) and Rachel Taylor (random aussie chick in movie) were in attendance...

MB said it was the first screening anywhere in the world ( I think he was lying! ) and that he was nervous about birthing his baby on the big screen, was a strange analogy the way he put it but anyway..

I don't really want to write a review of the film, suffice just to say I absolutely had a blast watching it, seeing awesomely rendered cgi robots who looked somewhat familiar to those wonderful generation 1 transformers having biffo was great.

People in the crowd were cheering, especially when Optimus Prime makes his first appearance.

I think this movie is going to make a shit load of money and it should, I enjoyed it far more than Spiderman 3, Pirates 3 or Shrek 3. Don't get me started on Oceans 13.

So if you're on the edge about seeing it (haha yeah right) I can whole heartedly recommend seeing it, and if you're a Transformers nut from day 1, I think you'll be pleased.

You know you can get the original Transformers movie on DVD now. It starts out "In the year 2004 .........."

lol, and all the 80s music is reason enough to watch it.

I had the original Beta that i watched as a kid until our beta machine broke and we were forced to convert to VHS.

I really hope i like the new movie.

I'm sure I'm gonna see this movie, and I'm sure I'm gonna crap my pants. But, Oh, Dear God. I caught a snippet of whatever pants-metal feelings-rock crap music makes up the soundtrack, and uh......
I know the animated soundtrack was hilarious with "you got the touch," etc....but at least that was funny, in hindsight anyway. I just hope that the audio garbage associated with the new movie is one day ironic and funny. But I'm sure that I'm just taking the new movie too seriously. I probably just need a beer.

Seriously...Linkin Park, Disturbed and THE GOO GOO DOLLS!??
I'm going to stick my finger in my brain.

No, no, "It is the year 2005." Gawrsh. You mean to tell me that you haven't memorized the dialogue yet?

I have the DVD. It rocks, but all the remastered (or whatever) colors are super-vibrant, which is a little strange. Still one of my favorite movies, sadly enough.

The new movie looks killer from the previews. At first I hated the new designs, but they've sort of grown on me over time...

And this is going to be my problem. I'm already prepared to hate it because of this. I mean, what the fuck is up with Bublebee being a Camaro!?! He's a goddamned VW Beetle! And is Megatron really not a gun?
I know, I'm taking what should be a fun movie way too seriously...but what can I say, I'm a purist. But I will see the movie nonetheless...

They explain the way transformers choose their vehicles to copy in the film.

There is a nod to the VW beetle during the film when Sam picks out his car.

Megatron transforms in to a star-fighter kind of thing, it's weird, but he is mean as hell.

i totally respect a purist view on this, but like many have said, movies like this try to maximize profits from far more people than just us kids who were fans! sadly, that remains the nature of the beast. its hollywood and it will not change.

that said, i didn't know how i felt about this until the preview, where i promptly pissed my pants and swore i'd go see it.

p.s. j/k about the pants pissing ^^

Yeah, I realize that the objective of the show was to appeal to a mass audience, and not a crowd of fanboys (and fangirls). One of my problems with the movie, however, is that I feel like they just designed the TFs however they wanted, and slapped the OG names on them. Hey, we want a scorpion robot, let's call him Scorponok! I mean, yes, Peter Cullen as Op is a nice touch, but it's sort of an afterthought. And what's up with all of those "new" Transformers? Half of the names on the toys are new to me. Blackout? Wreckage? Barricade?

I guess the same could be said for the X-Men and Spiderman movie trilogies. Those sort of wreaked havoc with the comic continuity in their own way.

That being said, I'll just try and enjoy the movie on its own merits. It looks really good despite all of the above.

i'm really not trying to defend it at all, just saying its to be expected and we will see more of the same. for us fanboys and girls it will never be how we want it.

sorry if something i said seemed like i was trying to refute you? that was not the intent at all.

I heard VW wouldn't LET them use the Beetle. That's why he's not, just what I remember hearing when production started.

I believe there was a GM contract for the movie, couldn't be wrong looking at the cars heh.

I think this movie gives enough to the true fans of transformers for them to be happy!

Eh, no. Just using your post as a springboard and thinking out loud.

I guess what I meant in my prior post is that the Transformers' popularity is fueled largely by 80s nostalgia, I think. Therefore, I've always questioned why, in the pursuit of box office appeal, the movie would break ties with the look and feel of the old cartoon and toy line so completely.

But anyway, no, my intent wasn't to argue. Just passionate about the subject matter. :P

Just saw the movie.

What a great time, at 2hrs 40min its easily one of the longest movies I have seen recently, but was not slow in the slightest.

The final battle scene was epic, great CG and comedy throughout.

oh yea, sam has a misfits fiend club poster on his wall too.

A+ time.

My bad -- I posted a new thread about this, when I knew I had seen another just a little while ago. So here's what I had to say...

It was absolutely incredible. Being a fan of the old cartoon series (forget Beast Wars crap), and also a former collector of the toys, I was in a nostalgic state of mind during the whole thing. All of the characters were so cool and well done. When I first saw the images of the movie versions, I was totally turned off, but I've definitely grown to like them a lot. There were some campy parts, and some of the action was hindered by super-extreme-close-up-what-the-fuck-is-going-on cinematography, but all in all I give it a huge two thumbs up. I can't wait for the sequel.

Now I have to fight the huge urge to start collecting the toys again. I have quite a big collection sitting in a box in the garage, but definitely need to focus on kaiju and the like. Picking up the entire cartoon series on DVD, though? I plan on doing that a.s.a.p., because it's a shame I don't have them yet.

actually both blackout and barricade (formula one racer though, not the police car thing) are gen 1 characters. not very big and towards the end of the first run.

What the hell is this post in reference to?
Edit: I see now. I didn't find any indication what this would have been a response to since nothing was quoted previously.

There's a couple KR / Western vinyl sightings in the movie -- A Labbit and an Axtrx. My girl said she saw some sort of vinyl penguin too. I'm guessing by her description that it was Harold by Kozik. Pretty weird.
