Post SKULLBRAIN - AUCTIONS - Think First !
Hey first I just wanna say that I DO NOT have anything against VGA. But PLEASE, the next time ANYONE has a sale of some kind please be aware of what will occur. VGA's sale today was a nightmare ! When I saw the listing I thought GREAT, maybe I will be able to snag a figure or two that I have been looking for. After waiting for the pictures to be posted the excitement commenced - FUN - WOW - wait a minute. Someone has just decided to sell items on the bay instead. What a BUMMER. Oh well, I guess I will do what I was about to do earlier, out the door. 1 1/2 hours later back home. Look an email saying VGA has now decided to start accepting offers. What about all of my initial offers, off the table too bad. How much more confusing could a sittuation get ?
I think it is well worth it to plan on these things way ahead of time and take a deep breath. Because with the DAMN rarity of these new types of kaiju, MUTANT CHAOS will ensue ! You bet, and by the way I did manage to snag one, but NOT the figures I was really wanting. BUMMER

At least on eBay every skullbrain member could have had the opportunity to pick up something and ad a rare hard to find to their collection.

The big sales have me worried. Apparently once you have all the rxh or sb figures you want the urge to sell becomes irresistible.

Thank god I still need a few older ones.

Selling is going to happen in any and all collecting communities. And in my opinion is healthy for all concerned.
I'm no expert, but I have noticed over the years that some people collect a certain genre and stick with it forever. And some people become completely infatuated with something and go insane hunting it down and eventually become bored or less interested and repeat the process with something else.
The second group become huge assets to everyone else because as we've seen here hard to come by items become attainable!!!
I am a little of both. My glow collection is my true love and obsession. But I've had a few other collections going alongside the glow. And became less interested in them and either gave things away or sold them.

Yes, it was confusing, and it felt like such a pain in the ass to have to deal w/ the bay...it is really hard for me to come up w/ the money for these things...so I hope I never start selling my SB and other Japanese shistuff! I was first introduced to vinyl through another site but I felt like I only bought based on hype. Here I feel free to buy what I actually love thus I would hate to think about one day selling my collection! Don't know what this has to do w/ this thread...I guess, now I'm passionate about what I buy thus I understand your frustrations!

Or in my case I store it and then get reaquainted with certain things and that collection comes out and the other goes into storage. I have done that with a lot of stuff over the years. As a matter of fact my Jap vinyl has taken over where part of my Halloween collection was. So that part goes into storage and I get more Jap vinyl. But now I am running out of room to show stuff and to store stuff - so I guess sales are good for "making room" for things your really are not that passionate about anymore.

All this stuff is Cyclical (SP)! It will come around and go out and come around. As long as there are some of us out there who appreciate it it will survive. Although I have noticed the board is a little quiet other then the FOR SALE section!

I can't store things, I just sell them if I'm not going to display them for any reason, be it lack of space or lack of interest in the figure.

personally i don't think theres anything to "worry" about unless you see your collection as a possible cash cow.
i got VERY little from the two big sales, but other people will sell the stuff i missed in the future.

what i love about japanese vinyl is that the new soft vinyl availiable is just the tip of the iceburg.
there is so much history and so much to know, i'm just enjoying the ride.

with japanese vinyl, i'm going to downright enjoy being a newb for the next 6 years or so!! :D
