You are 6 months aways from selling you Huck Gee customs to buy a few rare SxB figures. I buy figures now without knowing their names, run numbers, who made them...ect. It is wondeful.
I'm already a junkie for the JP shwag. I'm fucked, but happily so. Franks sell off was just the beginning for my addiction. These pieces are amazing. I know almost nothing about them, but I know what I like.

I hear that secret base is now working on a liquid vinyl figure that you can actually inject right into your veins.
the first time is free...

And a type of vinyl you can rock up and smoke! Just don't change your name to Pookie. Good luck with the collection! Out of all the things I have collected, SB is my favorite, except guitars of course!

I just pick up the pieces I like. I'm pretty picky, so I guess it is easy for me to say that. As much as I like SB, I don't like all that many to spend cash on. I jus pick up the odd brain and ghost fighter or obake. Just look around and see what you like. You're only fucked if you are a completist.

Buying a couple of cool ones will turn you into a completist though.

I'm pretty new at SB collecting as well. My advice is the same with SB collecting as it is with other toys, action figures, etc.
Above all else, get what you like. If it makes you happy and you don't have to eat dog food to afford it, then go for it. I have only a few sort of random pieces, but I really dig them. So I quest for more based on my personal tastes. Now, I, like VGA, happen to LOVE anything glow in the dark, so that is a priority of mine, like with the new Atmos SB sets. I grabbed the cool GID Pumpkinhead & Obake. But I also love Pumpkinhead / Jack-o-Lantern figures (of anything, not just SB), so that played into the equation as well. Collecting on tastes can be a tricky formula of sorts that is as deep as you want it to be.
Another example is my acquisition of a cool Skull Mantis from Super 7. They had one that is green metallic with red shiny eyes, a paint job reminiscent of Kamen Rider, which is a favourite of mine. Further, there is the Skull Brain that has the awesome red hero scarf and is based on Kinkotsuman, a villian from one of my favourite manga, Kinnikuman. So I snagged that right away, too. See? There's lots of paths to choose.
If you only want a certain colour, that's cool, too. I might suggest either sticking with that or deciding to get as many of the type you like the best -- Skull Brain, Skull Bee, Skullwing, Pumpkinheads, etc. As you go deeper down the rabbit hole, you may find yourself wanting more. Such is the way of collecting.
Pace yourself early, buy some nice things, decide from a goodly sample what you like best and then make a "hard target search" effort. From my experience so far, everyone around here is most helpful.
Good luck with your collection!

Why do you want other people to tell you what to collect. Just buy what you like. Simple as that.

Hi everyone. New to the board and this seemed like the right place to step in.
I've been collecting figures for around a year or more. It started out as a means to aquire pieces by artists which I really liked and has grown from there. I'm pretty good about just buying figures that I really like and not worrying to much about completing sets etc. That is until the SB fever hit!
I must admit to initially being somewhat confused by SB figures, so different from other stuff, but then the more I came back to them the more obsessed I became! I think Knewnan said it best at the start of this thread as now I can't get enough and have decided to head out on a Skull Brain mission as these are the figures that I like the best.
Now to ditch some of the old vinyl and continue the quest!
Also on a side note, this board really seems like a great place and I look forward to chatting it up with some of you and hopefully benefiting from your expertise.

Hey Plover!
This is by far one fo the best toy boards I've been on. Ning's board (RIP) was great too but now this is home.
Welcome into the fold. There's no going back now!

Well, it's more like I'm asking for advice... normally, I jump in with a collection when a line starts up, but since I'm not even aware of how much SB stuff is even out there, I was hoping I could learn whether or not one approach would be less realistic over another.
Ultimately, I'll decide which pieces to acquire, but it never hurts to get help from people who are more in the know.

Thanks for the welcome bigstar13!
I'm with you Locomoco. The whole SB scene seems very different from the western side of things and it would be great to tap into the knowledge bank here to get a better understanding of how things work, history etc.
I've been blown away by the variety of exclusives and variations available! I really like this though too as it makes the search that much more interesting. Frightenly, this has also resulted in my delving into the world of Celga and YJ though too! God! I need help!!!!!!

A little tip. When it comes to buying SB, my advice is wait until it gets to the US.I almost bought a Green Skull wing for an ungodly amount on yja the other day,and now I will hopefully be getting one for (wont belive it until its in my hands) for far,far less.It will hit the US eventually, and with all the fees that the Celga and all that charge you,if you have the self restraint ,you can prob save your self some money by chillin' out and watching everyone else scramble to get stuff on yja, and a month later you can get it on ebay,TT,S7,or in the BST forum on skullbrain.
Oh,and Ghostfighters are the Shit!

not always true about waiting on shit, but yeah it's a gamble using those services w/ all the fees and whatnot.

Remember back before Christmas, when we were all freaking out about the new Atmos sets and thinking they wouldn't be obtainable? Look now - thy are still every where (well except for the Glow). Just goes to show yo unever know what will become "rare" in the future and what will become common.

Super7 had an issue with a pretty good line up of SB photo and details. That helped me when I first started. Just stay up with the board and you should have it down in no time. Every one on here is pretty cool.

Yeah the S7 article was great at helping to decide which figures to get and which to pass on. I ended up with check marks next to everything!
