vick has been at this much longer than his NFL career. i'm sure he looks at this as some sort of recreational hobby or something to gamble on. to him these dogs are nothing more than a deck of cards and when he gets dealt a losing hand he goes and drowns it or smashes it on the ground.

and i need to disagree with NT slightly. i believe these dogs are able to process bits and pieces of what is going on. dogs (esp pit bulls) are very loyal to their owners. and i am sure these dogs when thrown into the ring are only trying to do one thing. and that is to make their owners proud.

i know when my dog does something wrong and i get mad at him his whole body language changes. he would do anything to make me happy and when he does something to make me not happy you can see it in his eyes that he knows he disappointed me.

cruelty towards animals, children and women is grotesque. the cruelty and abuse will stay forever. i don't generally wish violence or harm on anyone, but vick and his friends who were involved in this should die in the same manner as these animals. unfortunately the most he could get is six years in federal prison.

the NFL should come down swiftly on vick and just ban him from the sport. but they have come out and said they want to let the legal process playout. that is just absurd.

He should be forced to fight to the death with his buddies. I'd much rather a piece of shit human being die than a helpless animal, any day of the week.

HELL YES!

Other than the fact that I love dogs...I don't understand the fun in watching them fight, even if I try to force myself to that level. In the end, watching guys beat the hell outa each other is way more fun. UFC!!!!

HMS - I hear what you're saying and agree with it. My dog is the same way, and I'd think most dogs in general can process "good dog" "bad dog" and want to please their owners. I guess my statement was more general.
Whenever I think of animal abusers I always think of the people that throw cats in bags off bridges. This stuff just breaks my heart. Hell, I feel horrible when I accidentally step on my dogs paw.

people may complain that UFC (and for that matter Boxing, wrestling etc) is barbaric, but the fact is these participants are willing.

Precisely. Both opponents are human. For what it's worth, the UFC has changed since its inception and added a lot of strict rules such that it's no longer as brutal as it once was. This disappointed a lot of OG fans but served to help legitimize mixed martial arts fights in the public mind and reduced the chances for catastrophic permanent injury. Some will always object to human fighting sports but I think they're not nearly as barbaric as pitting animals against one another for sport. Now "bumfights" are another matter. Disgusting. You wanna give a homeless guy some booze money? Just give it to him.

this disgusts me to no end. this guy should go away for longer than 6 years. after reading about how they've killed some of the dogs afterward by throwing them to the ground repeatedly just reiterates that vick isn't even human. i got into a heated argument at work about this...

there need to be more pitbull rescue centers, an acquaintance runs one in CT called "To Hell And Back" i love pitbulls and get very worked up when i hear about people abusing them. i can't believe anyone would ever think its "cool" to do...ugh...

Unfortunately law enforcement or intervention agencies can't really respond without evidence or incident. Plus, in some situations, there's an intimidation factor that keeps people from talking. Many times the people breeding or training Pits or Presa Canarios or whatever potentially dangerous breed are also drug dealers or are connected to drug dealers, and also associated with gangs. You know how that goes ... there's the big "snitch and die" thing. There are probably people who know about this kind of thing in their neighborhoods but are too afraid to speak out, unfortunately with good reason.

Its a Federal Indictment; theres no parole in the Federal system.

He's likely shitting bricks atm and deservedly so.

He may get off but the Federal system is not stacked in favor of criminal defendants or the little guy. Its much better to represent big business or be a prosecutor in Federal Court than State.

Edits: He's being charged in Richmond Virginia. The 4th Circuit is easily one of the most conservative Federal Benches in the USA and Juries in Richmond... lets just say it was the venue of choice for Federal Prosecutors in this case.

They probably had a choice of many jurisdictions to bring this in (its interstate).

Don't be so sure he'll get off.

yah i think i spoke prematurely and of course i hope he gets severe punishment. I'd be satisfied if he was banned from the NFL, mandatory jail time, community service work (rescue / shelter related, though i don't think he should be anywhere near any animals!), + fines.

Now I wonder if the NFL will act before next Thursday's hearing or what?

here's my big baby.

Man this is just very very sad. I hate to see any animal or creature killed. My girl breaks my balls when I capture insects in the hose to release out side. But to me all animals and insect have their place in life. And animals such as dogs and cats definitely have a understanding of what going on around them. Just this morning a small dog was on the news about just how bad it was abused :

http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?s=6797096

I agree there should be way more stiffer penalties for the sick people who can do this. To me if they can do this to an animal its a sign of what they can do to humans and should be delt with.

The sad thing is that Vick is rich and makes others rich. And we all know that money can buy you just about anything. I highly doubt that the NFL will kick him out. He makes them money and thats more important to them than any dog. Its a sad world !

Lets hope the title of this thread happens both figuratively and literally. Its not that far fetched.

Vick's more apt to get a Jury made up of dog people than Michael Vick fans especially in Virginia. Doubt he'll get an OJ or Robert Blake type Jury on this coast with these charges.

from espn.com:

What do these federal charges mean for Vick?
Vick is in real trouble. He is up against the might and majesty of the U.S. government with all of its agents, all of its investigative techniques and all of its skilled prosecutors. If he has any doubts about the power and skill of the forces arrayed against him, he can call Scooter Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, or he can call Lord Conrad Black, the disgraced media mogul facing time in a federal penitentiary. If he still isn't convinced, he can call Jeff Skilling, the zillionaire former Enron CEO who is residing in a federal pen. All three of them hired brilliant (and expensive) lawyers. All three thought they could explain their way out from under federal charges. And all three were convicted. Vick can, and probably will, hire some of America's best defense lawyers, but they will face a serious battle.

I'm at my sisters in New Jersey and she's had two female pitbulls. I have NEVER met a friendlier dog EVER. This is her current dog that sleeps with me every night :D I smile because it drives my sister crazy.

I hate to read or hear about these things. My dog Kenji is believed to have been bait for dog fighters. My girl and I resqued him from the pund and now he's a happy fella. He got a scar on his face that makes me feel like punching out people who does this kinda shit. He still got some aggression in him but I hope that time will make him trust everyone around him someday.

I commend everyone who has spoken out here. I also liked what you said about civilised people HMS. It is very valid point. Now I hope you guys entertain the idea of becoming vegetarian. Its a great thing to do to alleviate the pain and suffering of our fellow beings on this planet.

cheers all

Attached is an email my wife received from HSUS for helping with the Michael Vic cause. Please take one of the two (or both if you can) actions below to have your voices heard and to make a difference - Thank you

Thank you for asking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to suspend Michael
Vick for his alleged dogfighting.

Please tell your friends and family to take action, too:
https://community.hsus.org/campaign/US_ ... hting_nfl2

And if you haven't already, please help us care for the dogs seized in
the Michael Vick case by making a special donation
today:

Thank you for all you do on behalf of animals.

And boycott Nike. They have some million dollar shoe deal with the motherfucker and they won't drop him b/c he has yet to be found guilty. (Meaning they have already invested $$ into product development and are unwilling to take a loss.)
