I just saw an episode of CSI and about crapped my pants when I heard what I thought was a EN song. I just went online and found out I was right. I havent listed to them in at least 10 years, I am surprised I recognised it but that wail is always a giveaway. Now I gotta go dig out my records!!!!!

They sure were a great live band Blixa was so theatrical in a classic sense.

Blixa was great, I only saw EN once and it was amazing. I was really sad to hear he left Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds last year.

EN was instrumental in getting me into more challenging music. Ever hear the Pussy Galore cover of Yu Gung? Hilarious!

neubauten was one of the best live shows i have ever seen. i really wish i could have seen them in there crazier days, but i guess that is what i have the halber mench dvd for.

Thats the tour I saw them on, in SF if I remember right it was 84 or so.

Saw them a few years ago in NYC. Great live show, amazingly creative... I never would have thought to use a turbine as a xylophone.

I only saw 'em once too and it was allegedly after they were past their prime. Not so. Opening band was Chris and Cosey whom I'd seen several times ... they were MUCH better live than on record. Anyway, EN was just amazing. Blixa reminded me of some film noir cabaret dude from the pre-WWII era, alternately debonair and downright scary, but always in control. The band was in fine form. I have no idea what the naysaying was all about; they were superb; their set was practically a physical workout. That was at the old DV8 club in SF ... surely some here remember that huge place.

I got to see EN at the Bowery Ballroom a few years ago and they were great, Blixa is an amazing dude for sure and one of my favrite guitarists.

Personally I'm glad he left the Bad Seeds, Murder Ballads shouldve been billed Benny Hill and the Bad Seeds. Shark jumped...

Lastly not to threadjack but in an Industrial vein, has anyone seen the Throbbing Gristle movie where Cosi neuters the hippie? Saw it at an industrial show at the market street cinema... HARROWING!

I saw them once and they sold their custom instruments after the show, auction style.
Pretty cool.

Half the custom instruments they used in the show I saw, I doubt I could even fit in my apartment. Weird things plugged into air-raid sirens, that turbine thingy, various percussion instruments... It was nuts.

What was really interesting was that, at this particular show at least, they were using the strangest instruments to make rather traditional-sounding music. It never got as weird as it could have, and all the instrumentation hung together really, really well.

Even the songs I didn't like were fascinating to watch being performed.

Strategies Against Architecture II changed how I listened to music as a kid. I've seen them live a few times and always have been blown away. I think Meczilla's comment about more challenging music is correct. It just really makes you listen to everything differently.

That sounds like the 08/08/88 show at The Strand ... could that have been it? If I recall correctly that movie was made by Monte Cazzazza, a very nice man in person heh heh.

Did you know that Throbbing Gristle exists again? Not only is there a new album out, but they're doing Cuom Transmissions-style performance art shows at the same place that they did some of the notorious ones in the early-to-mid '70s, ICA. The posters I saw looked like they could be from the original era. I think this reunion is very sincere ... these aren't people who would have reunited for the money, and besides ... what money?

The new CD is a mixed bag. There are some excellent tracks that sound exactly like TG should sound in 2007, but there are quite a few that sound like Coil on a mediocre day with Gen "singing" instead of Jhon. Maybe I'm being too harsh. It's amazing that they came back together at all and that the sound is so real.

i've been thinking about picking up the new tg but haven't gotten around to it yet. i would really like to see them live, but they seem to just be doing the occasional one-off show in europe.

Jeez, speaking of feeling old, I worshipped them in high school and managed to get their pal Snakefinger to play a show on the San Mateo High School front lawn. A year later, I met one of the Residents and became good friends for several years. I can't say that I'm crazy about their post-Mole Show work but I'm in awe of the fact that they've stayed true to their own vision uncompromisingly and have made a good living at it since 1969. The only other weirdo artists of their generation whom I can think of who did the same are Zappa and Beefheart.

I never got to see EN live but caught FM Einheits whatever project that apparently never put out an album on the lowest of the low tour? i think with pigface.. and they he was fucking amazing..
