I think the regular colors work much better, but it's still a pretty ugly toy. JLed's own mini line Finders Keepers looks great, but I don't dare post a picture here.

Greg "Craola" Simkins, whose paintings are damned good. The rare "lowbrow" artist who clearly knows he's more of an illustrator than a "fine artist." Can't say I've cared for anything he's done for toys but maybe he just needs to design his own independently of platforms and collabs. The promise certainly seems to be there.

DC/Marvel's Amalgam comics come to mind. And yes, those sucked eggs.

I have always found that Craola's style just does not seem to translate well into the vinyl world.....just my opinion....

I was just testing everyone's sarcasm detector...seems without a  no one is sure. To set teh record satright: I'm a big Jled fan, but certainly not digging this. However, I will reserve final judgement until I see it in teh flesh, rather than calling it based on a crappy photo. IMO teh JLED/Simpkins collab paintings don't always work, but I do like that they do it.

Yep..I say take a chainsaw, split it in the middle and sell it as two separate toys....When that happens I MIGHT take the JLED side..

In my opinion, this is what happens when you try and force a style or product. Unless it comes naturally from you, it just doesn't feel right. We all know what happens when JLed does "his thing" and this for sure is not it. I am not telling anyone to stretch themselves and try something new, but you have to be able to look at something and know when it should be given an early retirement. This looks like a forced attempt to cram the two together, as well as jump into a style of toy neither excels at.

Well put, BF. Far be it from mew to tell an artist what to do, but this just smacks of . . . well, something other than art for art's sake. Sad, really.

Jim here from strangeco... if I may post a quick reply:

Ledkins is a collaborative figure, specifically designed in the spirit of the Vivisect Playset annual show, which thematically focuses on the dissection and reconstruction of animals to demonstrate human emotion. It's not a "forced design", but something that actually does arise naturally out of the artists' experiences exhibiting in the gallery show. I think it works reasonably well in this regard, and also as a blend of the two artists' styles. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Before you write Ledkins off, I invite and encourage all of you to swing by the Strangeco booth at comic con this week and take a look at the figure in person, and more importantly in the context of the entire Vivisect Playset mini figure series. We will only have the gold and silver exclusive for sale at the show, but the entire toy series will be on display. You still might not like the Ledkins design, but it might give you more of a sense of where it comes from, so to speak.

We're in booth #4729, which is right across from Super7 at the top of the Cultyard section. So we should be pretty easy to find.

See you, hopefully, down there in fun diego!

If I have to put that much into consideration to enjoy something, isn't it than forced?
