does anyone else here have baseboard heat? someone must, right?

does anyone have a shelf or display case of toys near it? has it damaged the toys at all?

I want to put some Detolfs in my new apartment along a wall with a heater at the bottom and I'm wondering if it will mess up my toys in the bottom section.

I'm thinking that through a pane of glass it can't possibly damage them, right? I mean, the heat blowing out of there isn't going to be that hot. it's not like it's an open flame or something.

anyone have any experience with this?

In general, it's probably not a good idea to put any toys above baseboard heat, or under air conditioning vents, or in direct sunlight, or very close to fluorescent lighting.

so basically, nowhere in any apartment that I could afford to rent. got it.

not to self - display all toys packed away in vacuum sealed boxes where no sunlight or air can touch them

Florescent light will bleach and discolor your vinyl.

Funny, but true for many of us, I'm guessing. As far as the baseboard heaters go, I'd be afraid of the glass retaining (or just conducting) enough heat to damage stuff.

Regarding sunlight, I've found that horizontal venetian blinds are directional enought to work well for letting light in, without allowing it to blast directly on to things. Medium-weight white curtains also work well. In addition to toys, I also collect vintage movie posters & lobby cards, so this is a definite issue in any place I live.

re-direct the heat away from the toy case...or raise your case above the vent.

Or leave the bottom section empty. Never understood the detolf setups.
How can you see or appreciate the figures in the bottom section.

Even storing it in the dark is no guarantee. I recently dug a couple of Gundam toys out of my closet that I purchased just a year ago, and they were badly yellowed despite being kept away from any light source. My apartment gets very hot in the summer sometimes, I think that's what did it.

The more you can protect your plastic toys from extremes in light and temperature (especially those that are white and translucent), the better.

I lay my detolfs on their sides.

I have that style heating in my apartment. They get hot but you should be alright. Just don't place them right up against the vent. Its not hell fire shooting out well at least not in my place, its an old city building.

baseboard heat "radiates" it doesnt hafto blow, it will heat the glass, and in turn anything (at least in the lower section) of the case, if your gonna go ahead with it as the smallest precaution you can make id at least say dont let anything touch the glass back. but if you put a pillow between the baseboard and the case, (it wont ever get hot enough to ignite the pillow i dont think baseboard will ever get above 170F which isnt enought to ignite a pillow) it will create an insulation barrier that should lower the temp enough to help protect the toys.
