We are imprisoned by our desires, shacled by shopping. So we need money to buy these things, so we bind ourselves to an employer in order to get the money, or we get into debt by borowing money from one of the many institutional usurers in the marketplace. And this is the pitfall and trap of DESIRE.

We are attach to toys. Things or toys are always made not perfect. The that things are disappointing leads us not to abandon things, as it should, but to buy more things in the hope that the "new and improved" thing will not disappoint like the previous thing. So.. this is how capitalism works .. how we addict to toys

Toy-love is addicting as we all know. Some of the recent stories about incurred bad debt on this board have frankly alarmed me. As with the commodity habit in general, we all need to take responsibility for our own spending habits and general budgets. Perhaps this is easier said than done, but for my part, when I'm tempted to overspend, I just remind myself "this isn't a competition, it isn't even a need. Remember that what you already have is beautiful. There are always more toys. Patience and delayed rewards are virtues." Stuff like that. :-)
In my opinion it's dangerous to blame "capitalism" because the reality is that all of us in one way or another live in capitalist systems, and they aren't going away. Anyone finding themselves in a short-on-cash-because-of-toys situation should regard it as a wake-up call. Time for better self-management.

As regards finding meaning or purpose in life aside from the fleeting gratification that material acquisition brings, all I can say is that this is also something that all contemporary individuals should consciously come to terms with in their way. Again, easier said than done, but hardly impossible. Toys aren't literally an opiate and collecting isn't literally a disease. Balance is the crucial key.

I agree with my bud Xoconostle.. I give myself a monthly allowance and it keeps the debt demons away. The key is to stick to it. You have to remind yourself that "they didn't just make one" (unless that is the case then you're basically screwed ). It might also help to start a "focused" collection.
One sees all the OGs collections and want to have the same but those guys (atleast the smart ones) took many years to built their horde. Folks want an instant collection and in just a short time find themselves with an unmanageable number of toys they don't know what to do with. They start keeping stuff in storage which is something I could never get my head around. If the time comes that I can't display what I buy for my collection then it time to stop. That or you fall into that vicious cycle of selling the last "hot shit" that you thought you "needed" for the latest "hot shit", it doesn't make any sense.

When you have hands quivering on that mouse over that "buy" button and you've already reached you budget or allowance STOP, LOOK at the toys you already have, PLAY with em for a little bit and you may find yourself walking away from that purchase and digging yerself deeper in dat hole. So remember boys and girls S.L.P. STOP, LOOK & PLAY
for debt free collecting!

Robert and Xoconostle, you guys are right on the money. I'm only just begining to realize how important it is when toy collecting to keep a budget, and stick to it.

I've stuck to a budget for the last couple years but it is still too much, I've cut it in half in the last month or so and will hopefully get it down further, but it's tough, if it's not toys it's something else...

Garadama - sounds like you're caught in the cycle of dependent origination. I suggest trying to break the cycle either between feelings and craving (eg. convince yourself you don't really want or need the toy) or between craving and clinging (eg. buy the toy but flip it for a small profit).

I tried but feel pain when you tried to sell it coz it seems like it will be tough to find one back in the future. I think that's that's the reasons why RxH wanna make it so limited.

I wish I should have loved the bandai rather than the RxH... OMG
Sometimes, I 'd think if I like it because of its beauty or... because of its rareness.
