Post I need advice about Slayer
so I've never seen them. I always find some excuse to not go every time they play, usually I just think it's too expensive.

they're touring again, philadelphia is in june, and it's $40.

I can't believe I'm even asking this, but is Slayer worth $40? or, I should phrase it as, is Slayer STILL worth $40? meaning are they gonna suck because they're old, or do they still got it?

I wish I had a time machine, because I would just go back and see them in like 1990 and it would be the best night of my life, no doubt.

I think Slayer is worth $40 if you have never seen them before.

You're going to hear a good mix of songs; at least 2-3 from every album.

Last time I saw them was 2002 in Seattle. I'll admit that if I hadn't gotten in for free I would not have gone but then I was glad I did!

I should have seen them on that last tour when they played all of RIB and actually had blood rain on them.

thanks for the opinions. I do really want to see them at least once. but as usual, I don't have the extra cash to buy tickets right now anyway. we'll see what happens when it gets closer to june I guess, if it's not sold out by then.

i got to see them a few years back for free and the first few songs were exciting, then it got boring. I ended up sneaking back stage and watched the rest of the show standing beside jeff hanneman's guitar tech on the side of the stage. That wasn't bad, but i kept saying to myself 'play angel of death so i can go home.'

If you are thinking to go to the Slayer Unholy Alliance tour make sure Mastodon is playing at the show you would be going to, they fuckin rule. They are on the rotation schedule so they are not playing every show. If that is the case $40 is totally worth it. Now go buy Mastodon's "Leviathan" CD, you will not be let down.

I've seen Mastodon a few times, in basements actually, so if I go it will be weird to see them on a big stage.

truth be told, I do like them, and I have the first ep and first album, but I don't see why they get the hype that they do. I think they're good, but not as fantastic as everyone else seems to think.

not that they fit the category completely, but I'm not that into all the stoner/doom/slow craze that's going on right now. it seems like everyone is eating it up. it's alright, but I don't think it's gods gift to metal (is that an oxymoron?) like many seem to.

yeah. like I said, we'll see what happens when it gets closer to june.

I do like them a lot, but nothing after Seasons. and they're only #2 out of the Big Four of thrash, at least in my book.

no, they play much much bigger places here now. last time was the electric factory, but I think this time it's over in Camden at whatever it's called now, the tweeter center or whatever.

dude, slayer at the tla would be sick. that place holds a couple hundred people at most. I would most def go if it was there.

Skylar, I know what you mean by hype. Actually I found out about them by accident, I read about them in some mag a couple years back when I didnt care too much for music anymore. My girlfriend still buys all the music mags and I was just flippin through it and liked what I read about their sound then bugged my friend who runs Relapse in Japan and got a pre-release copy and put it on, it renewed my interest in metal, period. I am surprised too how big they are now, the first time they played here it was yawwwwnnnnn, second time they played with Converge here and I think that inspired the set, they ripped, you cant play with Converge and suck, those guys exude intensity wherever they go. Or maybe its just that feeling of getting to see Converge and you forget everything else.

That's completely true. Converge has to have been my favorite show of last year... the funny thing is everyone who live in more central locations keep saying that i would have lost it to see them 5 years ago when they 'were younger with more energy.' Nonetheless, they were amazing, killer bill, too, it was them, cursed, mare and terror. Wasn't so hot for terror but cursed and mare were awesome.

speaking of relapse, anyone listen to the Buried Inside record? It's unreal.
