I have a really cool 1880's dentists rebuilt tooth sample case full of teeth that have various crowns etc. on red velvet. its dreamy.

this sounds awesome. pics?

also, thanks for the tip on the Sweet Sue& Dapper Dan. Might be a good place to get my feet wet before taking the plunge on a true vintage piece. I will still check flea markets & hospitals though.:)

I don't think tate sells online, but i found the models elsewhere. what were they selling for Elvis? I don' tknow if I should just try to order them by phone? most others seem to have them for $70-85 each.

I don't know if you get up to nyc that often, but there's a guy on Houston that sells vintage signs and also has those anatomical models. I believe they were in the $250-$350 range the last time I looked.

You can get Dapper Dan and Sweet Sue on Amazon for $32. I like Budget Peter better, though. :)

When I was in high school, my photography teacher got one of these preserved pigs from the science dept. and attached it to one of those white satin and lace pillows that a ring bearer carries in a wedding ceremony. He made up a little card with his classroom # and his name on it and pinned it to the pig and that was our hall pass. Yup! If you wanted to leave the room during class, you had to carry the pig on the pillow. I thought it was hilarious. Others, not so much. :? He was my favorite teacher, by the way.

the paper versions with all the layers are great as well, and you can bump into old medical journals with them in old thrift stores sometimes. (pre-1920 usually) Unfortunately paper dealers usually just rip out the charts and leave the books. I used to find tons of them. The 3d stuff is harder to get, as it was mostly educational and not commercial sales. You can get a few cheap ones at toys-r-us actually that are about 10" high. Damien Hirst used the 10" one to make his 20 ft. bronze version, which debuted in Manhattan, and that bronze version in turn inspired the Kaws piece. A toy inspires art, to which then inspires a toy. Pretty funny how that works.

that is brilliant. I have a tattoo magazine that gives you a new autoclave recipe with each new issue. Who said an autoclave only did one thing.

I never realized the Hirst stuff came from a toy as I would admire that statue all the time. Pretty ironic all this "circle of life" stuff. man, are those lions are brilliant.
