I guess, I just don't think about 5 hour rides. Good point though. I don't take long enough trips anymore to think of such things.

Negative. I have a 5th Gen Video, so it's not old. I haven't watched any video on it - just use it for music. It was sitting in my bag not doing anything other than being on.

Why would anyone want to stare at a 320 x 240 screen for more than 60 minutes? I actually did that when the 5g ipods came out, and got tired of it really quickly. I tried using 2x reading glasses, which helped, but it still felt so strange, watching handheld video on such a tiny screen. I do it now and then on the bus if I'm watching something like a comedy show where a detailed image doesn't matter much, but otherwise, I watch all video bought from iTunes store or converted to iPod format and stored on my iPod via one of those Belkin devices that lets you watch the content on a regular TV. Fortunately, Apple video content is now 640 x 280, so blown up on my gigantor TV screen, the resolution isn't bad at all. Nice thing about the Belkin device is that it charges the iPod while attached. Plus it's attractive enough not to look ugly next to the set, and comes with a remote.
I use Cucusoft's iPod converter suite to convert .avi, .mpg and .mov files to iPod format. It also allows you to rip DVDs directly to iPod format.

I could totally catch a few scenes from my favorite movie or a simpsons episode on the way to work. not 5 hours of my favorite scenes though.

I totally forgot the screens are LED, plus flash memory, so 5 hours makes sense.
That's pretty good. I might have to snag one of these in the future.
I don't own a car, I use the bus to go everywhere, iPod video makes the trips better. I watch TV DVD on it, it's the only way I will ever be able to watch anything.
I use Mac the Ripper to rip the tracks off my DVDs, then Handbrake to encode the iPod video, 2 step process, the best way.

Doesn't that basically mean that if you actually had 160 Gigs of music/videos/pictures on your ipod, you'd also need to have it on a computer as well, right? Who has the room on their computers for all that?

I use external storage, a 300GB drive for my iTunes library. Works beautifully.

The $200 price drop seems to me to be an aggressive attempt to grab marketshare, especially with talk of an upcoming Google phone.
160GB is good sized, but like others, I have a 300GB drive that's filled to capacity, but 160GB on a player is overkill for me. It's not that difficult to swap out music, but I'm not in the market for one as I rarely ever use my old one anymore.

I use my iPod as a portable hard drive from work to home, so 160 GB iPod is incredibly valuable. Right now I stash about 50 GB of music/tv/movies, and I generally need about 25 GB for data storage. About 5 GB is lost in the OSX Journal formatting. Anyway, 160 GB iPod means I can put about 1/8 of my iTunes library on there now instead of the dinky amount now. Awesome.

---NT--- wrote: Possibly good timing for me as my iPod will not turn off. Detached from my work computer last evening, tried to turn it off and nothing happened. Remembered it after dinner and it still wouldn't turn off - and the battery had nearly drained in the 4 hours it had been since I left work. I bought it in May. Here's hoping for a new 160gb iPod! Now, will Apple be able to transfer the music from my current iPod to a new iPod if that's their way of "fixing" the problem? I stripped nearly all my music off my computer once I transferred it to my iPod - keeping only the albums I didn't sell to a record store. I really don't want to have to go back and put all my music on my computer again...
the same thing happened to my ipod....eachtime i've had to waitfor the battery life to drain to get it to do anything anymore...it's done it 3 times now....unfortunately can't take it back to apple since the person who gave it to me helped it fall off a truck.
but the eacct same thing....it essentially just freezes with all power on and stays that way....no amount of reset or restore has an effect.
and what do you mean, who uses 160 gb? i have a terabyte drive crammed with music and another 300gb drive likewise loaded down, i need another terabyte! music is god! anybody else here a member at oink's? i've got a few invites to give away...

I cannot believe that Jobs is doing the credit thing. Honestly, in such a hardcore corporate world where people are always trying to undercut other people, this is so fucking awesome!
It's shit like this that makes me know how legit of a company Apple is. They make unreal products and back them by having the best customer service I have ever experienced.
My two cents is, this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!
