Post Prep question for painting
Hey guys,
I was wondering what kind of prep work is needed to paint something like an RxH figure. I have a flesh figure that I'm thinking of painting but having never worked with soft vinyl, I'm not really sure where to begin. I've painted 2.5mm lead minitures in the past and a couple of...umm..."other"...figures but the plastic on RxH has some kind of coating on it. Can I just lay primer over it (like a Tamiya or Gamesworkshop brand primer) and paint away, or do I need to before priming. As far as paints go, I'll be using Tamiya acrylics.

lots of vinyl is coated with a kind of release-agent, coating to prevent dirt, etc., i suppose. before i've painted customs, i've washed them with dish detergent and dried them with a towel. this will allow the paint to stick better. then i sprayed a thin coat of primer or brushed on gesso to prevent peeling. good luck.

Well, For starters, I'd say, don't start on a real head. Paint something less valuable/rare first.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not trying to be a dick. (honestly) but I wish people would stop painting toys that are already so limited.

Hehehehe....I know what you mean but it's not like I've never painted figures before, and I wouldn't paint a figure that is already painted. SHAPESHIFTA gave me answers to the questions I had and a couple of tips. Now I just need to make the time to do the work.

Some figures just look like they're asking to be painted. I'm sure after I finish painting this one figure, the feeling will pass. It's kinda like getting a song stuck in your head...only worse cause it costs so much more....lol.

1. wash it with 91% rubbing alcohol. it dries with no residue.

2. use v color. any othr pains will not dry or bond properly. no primer needed with vcolr. u can order it from www.kaiju-taro.com

3. wear latex gloves while painting the piece so you dont get it oily from your skin.

And make sure the latex gloves say "Powder Free". If it doesn't say that you are asking for trouble.
