Yeah, Ithaca had a pretty dead labor day weekend, at the movie theater at least...
I am sure all the Cornell and IC kids were basking in gorges or Starbucks or something...
For all it's faults, I'd still recommend seeing it. Rob Zombie has a pretty good sense of composition, and most of the editing was pretty superb. People don't give Rob enough credit, he can direct actors. Of the three movies he has made this one is certainly the best.

It worked for me as a Devil's Rejects reunion film. I love the actors Rob drags along with him. Other than that, I can't say I really enjoyed the thing. Didn't hate it, though. There were some really well-done moments, but few and far between. Haig could have been used to much better effect than he was. Immediate reaction: Sherri has grown a lot as an actress. Still not where she should be, but much, much better than where she was on Corpses.
Zombie completist that I am, I'll probably pick up the DVD. Hopefully, there exists much unused footage.
And more shots of Sherri's ass.

This remake was so unbelievably terrible.
It's Rob Zombie's most visually uninteresting film without a doubt,
and the whole backstory was unwarranted and unwelcome.
and Rush? fucking "Tom Sawyer"?
fucking NAZARETH?
there's no excuse for that, ugggghhhh.

well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, which was very, very bad. but it wasn't good either, which I wasn't expecting it to be.
I think someone here said it best that as a Rob Zombie film, it works. it just shouldn't have been called Halloween and had a second half that was an unecessary shot for shot remake or a really great movie. it should have just been called "Rob Zombie's Crazy Slasher Movie." it was definitely better than some of the shit they put out these days though.
I appreciate it that Zombie didn't want to just completely do the same movie again, but I knew right off the bat when I heard in interviews that he was telling "Michael's story" that I wouldn't like it. who gives a shit about Michael's story? the reason he's scary is because we don't know what's going on in his head or why he does it. he is a completely faceless, emotionless killer. and the whole thing of him coming from this broken home is bullshit too and just an excuse for Zombie to have his crude, 70's style dialogue. it's much scarier thinking Michael came from a perfectly normal home yet for some reason he's this inhuman monster.
count, I actually don't hate that Toolbox Murders remake. in fact, I think I own it.

I'm not even gonna get started on this , after the roasting i got last time i dissed it but I just can't help myself.
What is it with so called horror fans?
why do they lap this shit up?
Rob Zombie writes singlehandly the worst dialogue ever uttered on a movie screen.Considering he is such a huge horror fan I'm shocked that he can't even manage a pastiche of a pastiche (he cant even make a descent slasher film) thank god he left out the scenes of young michael masturbating on animal corpses that were in the original script....I weep.
the fact that Hatchet came out this weekend and no one is talking about it saddens me....as it basically takes the conventions of halloween and friday the 13th and just runs with them to create a really fucking fun ride with heaps of bad comedy and tons o gore, they know they cant reivent the genre but you can tell that really , really love it.
also the fact that zombie didn't have the balls to stick with his original cut and bowed to pressure to change the end and take out the original breakout sticks in my throat.
sorry HMS but yeah I'm officially a hater , so fuck me.
go see the orphanage or devils chair if you want truly original horror.

Holy shit I had no idea Hatchet was out, and sure enough it appears to be playing in some local cinemas! I was just thinking about it recently after not hearing anything of it for a couple years, I'd better go see it before it's out of theatres, It's been getting no marketing here so I'm sure it wont last long.
And I only roasted on you last time because I took offense to being called a retard for talking about going to a movie, I do agree it was bad though.

Dear Rob Zombie,
Please stop letting your wife act. She can't.
Sincerely,
Missy

 Re: Rob Zombies Halloween!
i loved this film alot until the dvd release and Michael's escape scene had been changed from the theatrical version. the new rape-escape addition was real weak imo and a writer cop out. the theatrical version with the patient-transfer scene was much more creepy and affective, imo. i wont even dare ask what you all thought of H2.. i was on the fence with it, it was kinda neat to see Michael make an appearance w/o the mask... I thought the twist with Loomis being a media-ho was poorly played. I dont think the late Donald Pleasance wouldve taken Dr. Loomis down that star struck road. That, and the ending was WEAKSAUCE. Also, a bit more explanation on those pumpkin creatures that were at the long table/dream scene. I think Zombie could've really gone down the "who are these creepy pumpkin people?, what do they have to do with Michael, and possibly the festival of saurin (samhain)" road and made something cool out of it all. my nickel on an old thread.

 Re: Rob Zombies Halloween!
Well both cuts are on dvd so just pick up the theatrical cut. I got mine froim ebay for soemthing like $7. I like to have both cuts. I might be the only one that thought H2 was great. I did see it 3 times in the theatre. Never did that for any other movie. Granted one time was on Halloween night last year on it's rerelease.

 Re: Rob Zombies Halloween!
Why?? If you don't like his movies just don't go to see them. I find it funny that people will go see a film just to rip on it. Nobody is forcing you to see it.

Here's the thing about this. I had no issue when RZ was making original movies. But here, he's fucking with a classic. Its already great-leave it alone (and please keep your white trash actors OUT of it) what makes the original Halloween so creepy is that it happens in suburbia. Its a safe, nice little town. When you make Michael an abused kid from an impoverished home, it changes he whole meaning of the story. A normal fucked up kid is way scarier than one that's been pushed to the edge. Let him make movies all he wants, but please stop with the remakes!

 Re: Rob Zombies Halloween!
Fair enough but the original is still there to enjoy. I'm not a big fan of all these remakes but there going to happen anyway. While I loved the Halloween remake I hated the Friday the 13th remake. Total shit. I know RZ has been wanting to make his T-rex movie but nobody wants to put up the $$ for an original movie anymore. After he made the 1st Halloween he was supposed to make it but they wanted H2 instead. Man has to work.

 Re: Rob Zombies Halloween!
I went to see the remake of TOOLBOX MURDERS (because Tobe Hooper was hosting it) and a fan stood up and, figuring he'd have crowd and Hooper's support, attacked "Hollywood" and the machine of remakes, focusing on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.
Tobe calmly and cooly pointed out that the Toolbox Murders was a remake, that he made more $$ off of the TCM remake than he did for the original, and that if you don't want to watch the remake- don't.
I was like that with the Halloween remake and it's sequel. No one forced me to go see it. I saw a bootleg of the first a few months before it came out, didn't like it, so I didn't go to see it. Same with the sequel. I like RZ's movies (well, two of them at least) and I can separate a remake from an original, letting it stand on it's own... and I still thought the remakes were crap. Didn't offend me or remove my love of the original.
