I didn't care for Deathproof, it was ALL about Planet Terror. Than again QT is on and off with me. Some times I dig it and sometimes I don't. I understood what he was doing here, I've seen the movies that influenced this and got the idea, but just got bored. I just want Terror! I love Rodriguez.

I agree. After Planet Terror, Deathproof just made me want to leave. All that QT girl-talk was just too tiresome.

Gonna rent it and buy Grindhouse when it's released in it's entirety. I'm really sick of multiple releases of the same movie trickling out over time. Do it right and do it once!

Rumor has it that the split release was Harvey Weinstein's doing against the wishes of QT and RR. Weinstein was furious that Grindhouse bombed at the box office and blamed the directors, angry silly man that he can be. Anyone should have known that something as high/low concept as Grindhouse wasn't a guaranteed success as most movie-goers don't go to lowbrow flicks to see art house flicks and that the two levels the film operated on would confuse the masses, even if the film nerds and hardcore QT/RR fans "got" it. Of all people, Weinstein should have expected this in advance of the release, savvy producer of arty films that he's been.

IIRC the split/extended DVDs don't include the fake trailers from Grindhouse ... is that true? Damn shame if so. The one with Cheech Marin was hilarious. I hope I'm wrong but my understanding is that there are no plans to eventually release Grindhouse in its USA theatrical form on DVD. It's gotta happen eventually though. Weinstein is likely to milk the project for all its worth in the long run.

I got it today but I haven't watched it. I knew that the DVD release is the version they showed overseas. No fake trailers in this one but there is the Lap Dance scence that was shown in trailers but nowhere to be find until the DVD release.

fuck this noise...the weinsteins are KILLING the indie industry, they paid 3 mill for all the boys love mandy lane and then dumped it forcing the filmakers to rally the money and buy it back, they do this constantly they split the movies up cause they thought they would make more moolah this way after it's disasterous performance at the box office, thing is though big forehead qt was already preparing his extended cut before it even hit the the cnema......
on the plus side qt and rr have bought the rights back and Grindhouse will be coming out next year trailers an all.

Me three. Death Proof made me very conscious that I had already been sitting in a theater for almost two hours. Planet Terror was perfect as is.

The ideal solution? Hack Kill Bill down to 1:30 and show that instead of Death Proof, and it would have made it a perfect 3 hours.

Unfortunately you would need a time machine to pull that off, and if you had one we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

this is pretty much the reason that most other countries got the movie as 2 separate films, and why we are getting them separately on DVD. I made a thread about it when Grindhouse came out, how most people who went to see it just didn't understand the format or thought it was too long. People complained about the poor projection because they didn't understand that all the scratches and color splotches were intentional.

I believe both movies were released at Cannes or some similar event in longer cuts, to fill them both out as their own films, which is probably what's going to be on the DVDs.

I, as many others, will not be purchasing the DVDs this way because I want a double feature. who knows if I will ever get it though.

I really enjoyed both of these movies when they were released. In fact, I couldn't remember the last time I had so much fun. Planet Terror was off the chain, and Death Proof was amazing (girl talk sucks, but fuck that--the movie was awesome)

I mean, "buttfuck that--the movie was awesome". (sorry, I got two hours of sleep and I'm hopped up on caffine)

It's good to know that QT and RR aren't to blame for the lame-ass seprarate releases. no trailers? WTF?! I can't believe the powers that be decided to be chickenshits about this. I WANT TWO MOVIES TOGETHER WITH CAMPY PREVIEWS IN BETWEEN!!!

not only that, but I know that Rodriguez spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money to create the computer technology to put in those scratches and effects to make the film look worn, and the Weinsteins wanted to take it out for the re-release and possibly the DVD

That's so lame! I understand splitting the DVD's kinda, I JUST want Planet Terror, but I still feel that there should be a release of BOTH just like in theaters. But to "clean it up" destroys the whole concept and is a slap in the face to the director.

Maybe they'll release a 3rd DVD of just the trailers to get more $$$$
