Post What to do? WHAT TO DO???
So I just got an email from a guy I know. I've never met him in person, but about five years ago I bought several Kenner Alien and Predator prototype action figures off of him.

The email is imploring me to support the Ron Paul campaign.

My email application is your Mad Libs. How do I respond?

Here's the email:

Hey Guys

Rest assured this is not a SPAM email and I'm not one to go out of my way to preach or force my views onto others, but I'm so frustrated with this country we live in and don't know what else to do. I would seriously consider moving to Canada if I thought it would be much better. I know our public officials do not have the working class people's best interests in mind and I don't see things getting better any time soon.
I'm forwarding Ron Paul's email to everyone I know in the hopes that SOME of you will be shocked enough by it to open yours eyes to whats going on around us behind the scenes.
Hopefully it will scare you enough to take the time to look into the man and consider voting for him in 2008. Unlike most politicians, I believe what this man has to say and feel he's the best chance this country has of getting back on track after the damage Bush and his cronies have done over the past 8 years. Some of his ideas are radical and new, but If we don't do something now, we will wake up one day in a country much like Russia and there will be no one to blame it on but ourselves.
We do not live in a Democracy as they want us to believe but a Republic. Look it up in a dictionary and you'll see I'm right. If any of you do decide to vote for him, please drop me an email to let me know. I'd appreciate it. You can do some more homework on the man and the state of this once great country of ours by checking out the sites listed here:

Thanks

Dear friend,

Our American way of life is under attack. And it is up to us to save
it.

The world's elites are busy forming a North American Union. If they
succeed, as they were in forming the European Union, the good ol' USA
will only be a memory. We cannot let that happen.

The UN wants to confiscate our firearms and impose a global tax. The UN
elites want to control the oceans with the Law of the Sea Treaty. And
they want to use our military to police the world.

Our right to own and use property is fading because bureaucrats and
special interests are abusing eminent domain.

Our right to educate our children as we choose is under assault. "No
Child Left Behind" is seeing to that. And our right to say "no" to forced
mental screening of our school-aged children is nearly gone.

The elites gave us a national ID card. They also gave us the most
misnamed legislation in history: The Patriot Act. And these same people are
pushing to give amnesty to illegal immigrants and erase our national
borders.

Record government debt is putting a burden on our children and
grandchildren that is shameful.

Yes. Our American way of life is under attack. And it's understandable
that many are concerned, even discouraged, about the kind of country
our children and grandchildren will inherit.

But we must never let discouragement become surrender.

One reason I am NOT discouraged is because I know I am not fighting
alone. Each day I head out I know that you and thousands of other
patriotic, freedom-loving Americans are right beside me, standing brave and
true for what is good and right.

I need your help now, more than ever, to save the country we love...for
the people we love.

My wife Carol and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary early this
year. We are proud parents of five children and 18 grandchildren. We
love them very much, as I know you love your family.

As a U.S. congressman, I always think about the well-being of my family
and of all the families of our great nation when I cast a vote or
introduce legislation. I also remember that I have sworn a solemn oath to
uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States.

For me, upholding that oath is the first and best way to preserve and
protect the blessed American way of life for our children and
grandchildren.

And now you know why I'm running for president of the United States.

I ask for your help. Please send your maximum donation today by going
to https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/

Sincerely,

Ron

Not sure what you mean. Are you asking how to properly decline interest, or whether or not you should contribute to Paul's campaign, or something else? Sorry if something obvious flew over my head but I'm not sure what you're really asking.

I need to learn more about Paul. I regret that I was initially disinclined to learn more because of the Alex Jones association, but sometimes Jones is right on target even if he's a bit of an unstable dim bulb at other times. I'll read up on Paul this weekend if not sooner. The idea of a Republican thinking outside of the neocon/"religious right" box is interesting.

Put yourself in this situation: someone you've had little contact with for years (and only through a toy transaction at that) has just emailed you and several other strangers out of the blue with an impassioned plea to support a politician. It begs for a wiseassed and/or nonsensical response (at least, it does from my perspective).

It's the internet superhighway's equivalent of having a Jehovah's Witness knock on your door. This time, though, you get more time to make things up. I am presenting my email to you as a blank canvas. Do what you wish.

Start typing.

I hate this type of shit. Basically saying that those of us who DON'T take action are ignorant and aren't as good as the "SOME" that do. Which might be true. But it's a total BS move IMO and operates on a lot of assumptions. I get emails with this type of shit nearly every day from my father-in-law.

Have you considered a divorce? ;p

I used to get these dumb dumb DUMB jokes from my pigheaded cousin all the time, sometimes several a day. One day I just got tired of the stuff filling my inbox so I emailed him back and politely asked him to stop sending stuff like that.

He writes me back with this never-ending thing about how he's not a racist about the Japanese because he takes kendo lessons and respects them and I'm oversensitive because of my interests and yada yada yada. Apparently the last one he sent involved Japanese people and I didn't read it.

I just wrote him back and I said that I didn't care if all the jokes were about albino Eskimos, the jokes just plain sucked.

He's been mad at me ever since for that. I think he was less hurt by the idea that I thought he was a racist than the fact that I thought his sense of humor stunk.

Respond like this: "GET AIDS"

My wife deals with a lot of people who think her company spams them, that was a real reply to an email once.

Polite response: "Your personal correspondence is appreciated but I respectfully request that you not forward political solicitations or other such e-mails to me, thanks."

Honest response: "I'm smart enough to know whom I want to vote for without your obnoxious spam."

I had to ask my sister and mom to take me off their distribution lists for links to cute little sites, thoughts for the day, dumb jokes, that sort of thing. It was sort of hard to figure out how to say it without hurting their feelings, so took a passive-aggressive approach, playing the 'net-savvy family member, warning about how sharing e-mail addresses with a bunch of people leads to porno spam and such. It worked. :-)

Well said, I like that metaphor a lot. At my last residence little old JW ladies knocked on the door all the time. I didn't have the heart to be rude to them because they were sweet, so I'd ask for a copy of The Watchtower and promise to read it. Sometimes the wacky illustrations are so great! I like the literal interpretations of Revelations, with giant beasts rising out of the sea and all.

Now the Scientologists, I will toy with. They don't like that.

My best friend is pretty much covered in tattoos. Last year he saw a couple of Mormon missionaries walk up to his door and knock. He quickly got naked and threw the door open, asking "can I help you?" then slammed the door shut and laughed maniacally. They did not return.

man, those illustrations in the JW books can be nuts!

saw one this year of a siren ,clad in leather bikini, drinking blood red wine, riding on the back of a snarling 4 headed beast or some shit representing the greed and lust of current culture. She supposedly brings the apocylpse or judgement day.. heavy shit!

wish I could track that pic down again, those JW guys believe that creature exists. holy kaiju!

I think I have this! It was a tiger-like beast, right? They slipped those under our doors here last summer, I'll dig through my stuff and try and find it.

Post Re: What to do? WHAT TO DO???
Some emails I got today reminded me of this old thread. How I eventually resolved this was politely asking the guy to stop sending me the Ron Paul emails. When he didn't respond and I kept getting them, I simply clicked on the "unsubscribe" link in his forwarded email, effectively cutting the messages off at their source. ;p

So today I got two emails from close friends, both appealing for donations for their respective candidates. Again, I hate this, especially when it comes from people I care about. I'd be just as offended if they were asking me to convert to their religion.

Anyone else getting this stuff in their inbox?

With close friends I think you can get away with telling them to piss off and mind their own business (but make light of the situation), as far as the toy dealer dude, I would just add him to your 'blocked sender' list. I mean, if you have'nt written the guy in a few years, what does it matter?

As Elvira once said, 'listen sister, if I want your opinion, i'll beat it outta ya'

It'd be cooler if it was to donate to the campaigns for Aliens or Predators.

If I do get crap like this it must end up in my SPAM filter cause' I never see it, sucks man.

Ron Paul is on the ball. We would be lucky to have him as president compared to our major party choices.

Roger, I have gotten some of these spam too.
I hate it but Id be polite though.

Instead of being mean, I just go off the wall and send him some off the wall youtube link, like this....

I think Alien is anti-abortion, in fact they're quite the opposite, they want EVERYONE chest-pregnant by the end of their term.
