Wow. I know this post is waaaay old, but I just came across it. I think I need to clear a few things up as the designer/manufacturer of Coochy Cooty- the vinyl.
First off, Frank, I respect your opinion and all, but saying that Robert "fought tool and nail" against making this toy is a flat out lie. Robert had final say on everything that went into the toy and we couldn't have created it without his authorization. Secondly, as far as I could tell, he was/is very happy with the way it turned out. (Last time I was at his place, I saw one displayed prominently in his library) I would agree that he thinks the toy thing degrades art and all...but I think he's looking at all the extremely simple/cute/take 'em or leave 'em toys out there. Also, I really think he was looking at this as a product. He's earned the right, afterall.
That said, whether or not it works as well as a toy designed AS a toy is up for debate for sure. I must say, it was quite difficult to make this character, that was created as a 2D character, to work in 3D. It has an incredibly thin torso and spindly legs that could not be changed without losing the essance of the character. All in all, knowing the hurdles it took to get this done : have it be articulating (12 points), have a huge head, aforementioned thin torso and legs, and still stand, make the hat be able to be positioned, have 2 arms/hands, AND make Robert happy with the look, I am extremely proud of the turnout.
