 War is hell
I have been watching Ken Burns' "The War" on PBS. It is harrowing. My Dad was in the Phillipines; my father-in-law was a flight instructor for many of the pilots that went over to fight (he desperately wanted to go, but had blew out an eardrum during training that kept him grounded).
I was about 3 inches from going to Viet Nam when the draft ended.
Holy shit.

Is there any concrete proof to that statement?

Yeah but 1- Not being erect doesn't count 2-he was dead (does that have anything to do with it?) 3-.................I'm done with this conversation, sorry. I digress, back to serious talk.

Well I took the "penis" thing to be more metaphorical than literal, but for what it's worth, I do remember reading that Napoleon's notably small dessicated member was sold at auction some years ago. The idea that Napoleon was an "overcompensating shrimp" doesn't usually refer to his privates but rather his physical stature, of which there is ample historical account.

Um, yeah LOL. Well, I only saw the first two episodes of the Ken Burns series and thought it was outstanding, possibly his masterwork. Of course, his team had six years and the full cooperation of several archives in assembling the work, but despite whatever strings Burns' clout may have pulled, there's no denying that the series is a masterpiece of documentary filmmaking. I will probably buy the full series when it comes out. Of what I saw, what surprised me wasn't so much that it was really interesting, but also that it managed to be quite entertaining and also very moving without being overly manipulative about it.

I have watched a few episodes of that show.
I am ashamed of how this country treated Japanese Americans during that time.

Yea, this series is simply incredible. I've watched all of the episodes so far and the one featuring the Holocaust is pretty disturbing. The soldiers talking about the shit they saw while trying to not break down in tears really brings it to life. Not only the information and the first-hand accounts, but the imagery is outstanding -- I've really never seen so much great war-time footage in one place.

It was pretty shady...segregated battalions and whatnot. First we imprison you then we invite you to stand up for america (yeah the same ones that imprisoned you) by dying in the front lines. So are you in or out?
I also watched Apocalypse Now and The Battleship Potemkin. We just have to say it and mean it:
WE'VE HAD ENOUGH ROTTEN MEAT!
Also I think they are using some crazy new shit where they make video out of the old pictures?? I saw him on a talk show saying something about it. I don't think they had cameras for some of that stuff. Ken Burns is the man tho.
