I'm also a woodworker, here are a couple of recent pieces I made ... One's a Nakashima 'homage' (aka blatant copy) Conoid chair, the other's just a little tool tote/rack that I use to keep the 'current-usage' tools from getting lost in the sawdust ... both from one nice slab of black CA walnut.

I'm just about to finish up a little Palladian-style display stand for a few vinyls, will post pics if I ever manage to finish it.

Wow! Thats some amazing work. I'd say you're much more of a Craftsman, than I. Unfortunately, I mostly work with Baltic birch plywood, and pine building custom guitar amplifier cabinets, but I've been working with wood since I was a kid. Dads garage had always been a Shop instead. I pretty much worked with him every weekend (whether I wanted too or not). We did some pretty cool stuff though and I learned a lot, so there's no complaints. I'll scrounge-up some picts of some of the unique amps I've built. Unfortunately, they're finished (covered in vinyls, corners, etc...), but you'll get the idea. I know I have some unfinished picts somewhere too. Do you do inlays too? I'd love to learn that.

Yoinks Jermy, what made you want to carve in oak, of all things? Makes for tough carvings ... but I bet it was some awfully tough stuff to be carving, too. Have you tried basswood (or even poplar or pine)? It would be a LOT easier going. That said, I think those are a pure-D hoot - the prizes and Haney's face slay me.

Erik, I certainly have not done any marquetry/inlay that's up to the level of your Dad's. I did make this tray, but it's a different technique (this one is actually called 'diaperwork,' of all things). (Can you tell I was a Qbert fan?)

yeah dude, i'm switching to pine/bass, softer wood. think i'm gonna carve me up some kaiju next. i just happened upon oak, didn't realize how crazy hard it was. q-bert board is be-youtiful.

Miami - that's some incredibly impressive stuff you've made! I absolutely love wood working - not that I do any myself, but I wish I knew how.
We just looked at a house yesterday that had custom floors put in, they were beautiful and nearly sold us on the house. But after looking up from the floors we realized it was too small for us.
