Ha!

I understand that sometimes, to get these labor-of-love movies made, you have to throw a bone to the suits who want to shove "one of today's chart-toppers" into the mix...but good christ, The Killers....ugh....

Corbijn also took one of the best pics of the man who is the sun in my personal musical universe, Captain Beefheart:

Thanks for the link to the trailer, Spence!

No but I've got that one packed up somewhere. Is it worth reading? I keep forgetting I have it. Way back in the day I had "An Ideal for Living" which had tons of great photos.

I'm going to catch that after getting the Chaos on Sat. but yeah, that sucks it's only playing in one place in the city.

Dunno if it's worth reading...that's why I ask :D. I mainly want to get it because it's suppose to have ALL the lyrics which are probably worth reading.

Talk about your limited release...1 city is showing the movie at the moment. I guess they have only 1 reel to bring around the US :(

Me too, but once I became a fan in the mid 80s, I discovered JD as their prequel. Sort of like Star Wars but the prequel is way better than the original.

well...Monaco and Revenge sound like newOrder and it is probably because of the way Hooky plays his bass. It is kinda surprising that there really aren't any bands that have tried to make that same sound. With so many bands citing Joy Division as an influence, you'd think someone would make an attempt at the sound as well. I know if I was in a band (and then I wake up realizing I'm just dreaming of being in a band cause I can't play or sing), I'd want my bass to sound like Hooky's. I could try using a chorus pedal and a bunch of others but it just won't sound right. Speaking of effects pedals, has anyone seen My Bloody Valentine live? Kevin Shields is king of effects pedals...lol.

As far as Electronic goes, big let down when I could not hear Johnny Marr playing guitar. That kinda falls into a "WTF are you thinking" category.

My favorite song: Ceremony - probably because it was written by Ian Curtis and recorded in studio by newOrder. I think they did perform Ceremony as Joy Division but they never went to studio with it...at least I haven't found a studio recording of it.

I wish I'd seen MBV live. Still love that band. For pedal effects guitarists, well, I'd seen Cocteau Twins several times live. Pretty awful as a live band. Clearly a studio thing. On the other hand King Crimson uses tons of effects and live processing and put on a killer show. With their talent, they don't need all the effects, but they do use them well.

It's too bad you missed them. They played 2 shows in SF for Loveless. One in the Warfield and one in Slims and somehow I managed to go to both shows which were maybe about a month apart back in 1992.

That is very good news! I lost all the old Creation singles in a stupid house fire a few years ago, and only have low-quality boots of some of the non-album material.

trailer looks great, psyched to see this. it's got to be better than 24 Hour Party People...really psyched for some more Martin Hannett portrayals...

the short piece Corbijn did on Van Vliet was pretty cool as well. great director, legendary band, very exciting.

I thought Gollum was great as Hannett, so yeah, it'll be interesting to see what may be a more realistic portrayal in "Control." Last night I was listening to a "forgotten" Hannett production, music by a band called Basement 5. Bass-heavy post-punk with heavy reggae influence. Love that early postpunk bassy sound. PiL's "Second Edition" ... that sort of sound.
