Post V-color questions
So I got a promotion, and now I got a regular schedule and some more free time. I have decided to start painting again and have given in to the V-color call.

I have search the old threads but I still have some questions and need some clarification

1. When using v-color, you need to mix it 1 part paint to at least 1 part thinner correct. So unlike Tamiya/Mr Hobby I will need to get a bus load of thinner?

2. V-color spray (the metal can) can be used as a basically a base coat or for large areas of vinyl and has no problem with the airbrush mix being layed over it. Correct?

3. Big question, vinyl toys AND Vinyl garage kits type vinyl bond/work well with v-color. Plastic injected kits are a no go, and what about resin kits?

4. How much comes in a bottle?

5. Whats up with the retarder?
Thanks in advance.

I think some people here drink it.

I haven't used it but usually what it does is slow down drying time.

In the 'straight' painting world (i.e. painting on canvas) retardants are used to slow drying time, allowing more elasticity and color mixing on the canvas. Perhaps the same is true for painting on vinyl?

I figured as much for the retarder for regular canvas work, but for a toy, I guess for fades or adding/mixing colors?

Any answers to the other questions above other than 'fuck off and good luck'?

:D

1) The thinner comes in larger quantities just for that reason.

2) If you let the coats dry first, it shouldn't be a problem.

3) Kaiju Taro ads say that you shouldn't use on styrene or ABS resin. I'd contact KaijuZoo for more info. He does some great paint apps on his kits. He'd be the one to ask.

4) Thinner comes in 400 cc bottles ( think sardine can size ) and the paint comes in 100 cc bottles ( think fingernail polish bottles ).

5) The retarder works just like it would on canvas. I doubt you will find it neccesary. When you do overlays like PaulK, then it can be a question. But I'd say most apps don't require it.

Hope it helps you somewhat. And if you're looking for Tamiya tape, shop on the bay for good deals. Everything else can be had at Kaiju Taro. And buy a bunch of droppers, you'll find you waste a lot paint if you make large bottles of it. You can ration your paint and save money by using smaller amounts. The droppers help with measuring. And don't freak when your KT order costs an arm and a leg for shipping. Buy as much as you think you'll need instead of multiple orders. Cheaper in the long run.

Ha! It is sort of scary, I have only barely touched a few toys and kits over the past 5-6 months or so, with so little free time. But now its a different story...
