Does this include side-projects and related bands -- i.e. mdfmk, Pig, and dare I say it, Shotgun Messiah?
(Great choice, probably would have been mine about 4 years ago.)

Ha, ha... that's part of why it is so hard!!! But you have to pretend that you can only pick the music of one "band" to bring with you to a desert island, and that is ALL that you can listen to for the rest of your life.

Now CHOOSE.

Ha...that's funny...

Yeah, I gotta say, for me it would be Led Zep, too.

Close runners-up would be Zappa and the Beatles, I'm not sure in which order....

Quite possibly the easiest question I have ever answered.

TOOL

I love music in general & listen to quite a few different kinds of music, but Tool has been on a whole nother level to me since I was a young teen.

John Coltrane - not a band, per se, but in terms of a body of work he really can't be beat (imo, of course).

Yeah, that would work... Miles Davis perhaps, too.

I am leaning towards switching mine to the Beatles, though.

Well if the rule is that you can only take a single musicians entire catalog to an island then that would be FRANK ZAPPA.
However, I do not like his ENTIRE catalog - there's a few albums that aren't very good...but that's to be expected when his career spanned 4 decades and he often released 4 albums in a single year.

Hmm, I would take Bowie on the island...so many albums, the guy has just done almost any possible kind of music...

Runner up would be Radiohead for the same reason but on a smaller scale.

Darkthrone (DM and BM, now more punk).

Iron Maiden (Punk-ish, metal, now a bit proggy metal).

Yes, I do! His version of "I am the cosmos" for one example. Very moving, gutty music...

That's Chris Bell who did "I am the Cosmos", but he was in Big Star.

I would take

Stereolab
Pink Floyd
Beach Boys
&
Wire

Is there a constant supply of food and water on this imaginary island that we can only listen to one band at? Because my choice might vary if this was a long-term sort of stay or if it was just until I died of dehydration...

I'll go out on a limb here and take the Grateful Dead catalog, which seems to continually grow, thanks to the inclusion of live shows, so my music could go on for quite a long time...not all the GD is great, but when they really hit it, it is outta the park...and half the fun is getting to that point.

that said, I'd also have to sneak in a little Megadeth, Death, and Immortal to continue the "dead" theme and shake up the island a bit...life without metal would be no life at all...

I'd also probably wish for a solar powered generator to keep my ipod or cd player going...it would suck to have all that music and no way to listen to it...
