I think Kaiju Taro already sent out pre-order emails on this one...easily the best version IMO. They're not customs...there was a vague reference to "a new paint technique" or something like that.

I was tempted as hell to order one, but I'm staying off the RxH...being a Cronic collector is expensive enough.

Hey...that pic is just a silhouette pic of one of my flickr pix.

This was a ltd. run of 10 handpaints done by Chop - the guys who sculpted this fig and all the other Pop Soda figures. it was done in Metallic Hot Rod paints and each one slightly different. they sold for 6800yen. Mine is the one in the middle

actually Morry from Mattel Mads/Spooky Parade draws the comic. Mori is just another hapless character in there along with Paulkaiju.

I got that email. I passed because I just can't dig the Popsoda. I gave up on it after that minty green one hit, I got it and still did NOTHING for me.

To comment on a few themse brought up in the last few pages of this thread:

- The Popsoda figures, I consider them RxH, but I don't like them so I pass.

- Unpainted RxH, unless the vinyl is a stellar color (or there's a lottery for an awesome painted figure) PASS

- There's plenty of new ones coming out all the time that are killer, save your money on the past if the prices bug you and go forward. Orange Booska Mutant, kills! Green Metallic Junk Spot Chaosman, KILLS! Toy Tokyo Evil, KILLS! I mean w/RxH there's always something cool coming around the corner. I think I'm only really rabid for 1 past release right now, 1 I'm actually going nuts to find (I drool over others, but it's not worth my trouble) and that's the S7 Chaos.

- RxH is enjoying a huge boom of hype right now, but that doesn't make the figures less appealing to me. That's like not liking a band anymore cause they get big or "sell out." I kind of hate the HYPE, all the "Look this figure is up on this site for a majorly inflated price" threads or "How much will this sell for/" threads, but I still love the figures. But if the hype didn't exist, if Mori wasn't making some scratch now, how much longer would this go? That is to say, would he have to shut down shop due to lack of income?

I'm just damn glad to get toys I think look awesome, hype or not, I'll pass on ones I feel "zzzzzzzz" about and I don't care who makes them particularly.

It's all about the toys, not the name on the card. But, for me, RxH seems to produce the largest amount of items that captivate me.

you tell 'em BloodDrinker!!! A cool thing about RxH is there hardly any figures put out that nobody likes - I think you're catching the drift of his smarts...

Hype does breed more toys. That's the one thing I like about it...

hype is good. since RxH has been getting more (well deserved) attention, I've found it much easier to score their toys. Hype or not, I'm happy to be able to have some RxH.

Definitely agree. Gives us more selection so that we can pick and choose the ones we want to buy.

maybe because there are new collectors with absolutely no patience who are willing to pay anything out of their deep pockets?

I still can't tell if that's out of true love or the notion that new vinyls are an investment or both.

I doubt its intended as an investment. Buying hot toy lines at precedent setting prices generally leads to a loss if you need to sell later (unless they do steamroll in price, possible but rare).

My guess is he truly gets joy from these things, can afford it, and doesn't intend to sell them. Just a guess as I don't know him.

Grats on some great pieces though Logang.

Oh, I just meant generally ... the high prices some are paying for toys released in the past six months. Anyway, I hope you're right and that it's more from passion and the impulsive "get it now!" thing than "someday this will be worth something." Part of my curiosity is aroused because I see the same issues in the conventional art collecting scene. People get into it for love, but as their collections and reputations as collectors grow, many get more into the "investment" mindset, which is perfectly legitimate, but as someone who loves art for what the artist is expressing, not what it's worth, I also find it a little sad. If I could afford to collect like some of my friends my appreciation might change, but on the "pure" level I hope not. I didn't mean to refer to logang or anyone else specifically, sorry if I didn't make that clear.

I see passion and "get it now" as opposites. You can have a passion for Japanese toys and the discipline and patience to stalk the best deal that's reasonable. On the flip side, is the "get it now" panic where people pay inflated prices when they miss a release only to see prices come down. Seen this so many times.

I really have a hard time thinking that alot of contemporary vinyl will hold its value. Or grow in value. I can't get into the "investment" mindset. I also can't imagine have a "love" for only one toy line. For me, it's broader and more complicated.

Yeah, I've seen the "get it now" temptation in myself but try to use that as a cue to consider "do I REALLY want this thing, or am I being affected by the hype?
