ok i am sure i'll get a good work over for this but i am keeping a few toys in the bathroom 'cause they look good there. mostly my gid's. so anyone know the effect on toys by a light daily steam? should i get them out of there asap?

but my cats cause a nightmare of dust, and I think it would only be worse in the bathroom.

I know moisture isn't good on my vinyl records, but thats only on sound quality. Although i have seen stored records that had bad water damage on the sleeves and the disc's didn't have any appearance of damage.

I keep all my toys sealed in a chamber full of inert nitrogen.

if they are at all top heavy the constant heat/cool of steam may cause them to devlope a gangsta lean. if they are pretty well balanced they should be ok...but don't hold me accountable for any mold they develop.

on mold: how long would you imagine vinyl has before it would mold in a space that dries rather quickly? would the mold be both inside and outside of the toy? is there a way to get rid of it once the toy has it? could i call them 'flocked'?

just wash em off with 91% rubing alcohol once in a while. they will be fine.

Well I have some Azteca Dumnys on a shelf in my bathroom where they get both steam and direct sunlight. I've had them there since June and have been watching for signs of deterioration. None yet. Not even any fading of the vinyl or paint colors. But then, it's only been four-and-a-half months. I wouldn't put any valued toys in there though.

polyvinyl toys will degrade from:

UV exposure and the natural outgassing, evaporation of the solvents that are used to plasticize the PVC . constant heat above say 90 degress will eventully soften the toy and if its top-heavy it will sag, but that can be corrected. Moisture, in the first few years will have zero effect, until the top layer of the vinyl begins to decompose due to natural aging ..then you will get problems form dust or possible mold 'sticking' to the surface. Mold itself feeds on organic stuff, so if you wipe off the atmospheric dust, dander and organic compouds from say, your breath or cooking smoke once in a while with rubbing alcohol, wghich will NOT affect the paint ot pvc the ty wont be adversely affected.

sunlight and atmospheric, organic pollutants are the killer.
