Post I just had to tell someone......
Look, I know no one probably cares about this - but after my boss said ZERO about this today, and I spent a day thanking my team members - I felt I had to go somewhere to shout about it:

Last night we deployed the end result of 5 months of work on a web development project to our production servers. Deployment started at 7 pm and finsihed around midnight - during that time we had the rollercoaster up and downs during our QA testing of would it or wouldn't go in, and would we have to roll back. Bar a few minor bugs, it went in very smoothly.

This was my first web development project (I have a mainframe and data warehousing background), and as project manager I am damn stoked that we got it in exactly on time - we had a one day deployment window scheduled from a couple of months ago, and zero buffer in the project - and in it went, like clockwork on 11/01/07, which I think is pretty damn good.

I got home last night about 1:45AM, tired as fuck after a long day and a particularly stressful run up where the usual last minute bugs, deployment issues and freak-outs were being worked out, and of course I couldn't sleep due to being kind of wound up from the whole roller-coaster-stress effect. But today, things are looking good, apart form the sore throat and cold I now have.

To up teh stress level a notch or two, senior management decided in their infinite wisdom to start laying people off on release day!!!! We kept wondering if they were lying in wait for us when we finsihed the release!

Anyway, as I said at teh beginning, my normally cool boss said zero to me all day about the culmination of 5 months work and our text book on-time delivery. Way to motivate!!! I lavished praise on my team, everyone rocked hard, and despite difficulties, really came through!

Needless to say I will be catching up on some sleep and trying to get over this cold over the weekend.

Over n out from software development land....and back to the TOYS!!!!

Congratulations, Muton, I know what it's like to get through something like this. My team just delivered our yearly 14,000 pages of documentation despite one of the team leads being hospitalized two days before the deadline. And of course, the day after, our manager came to us with every minute of the next four months planned out for us...

Medicate with equal amounts of zinc and poly vinyl chloride, you'll beat the cold. Feel better.

Hey, THANKS for the words guys - sounds like a lot of people here have similar experiences. Man, 90 deployments....I think I'd be dead.....
