If he's talking about the Toshiba HD-A2, no it does not do 1080p, and there's reportedly some artifacting at the 1080i setting.

sold out at my walmart. Wish I knew a bit earlier... 100.00 for an HD DVD is a great price and after reading the reviews for the Toshiba HD-A2 it sounds like it would have been a pretty awesome buy.

they just dropped the price at amazon today down to 130 bux which is still pretty decent,

i haven't hooked it up yet.

I got one yesterday and watched Transformers last night and holy shit it looks amazing. The player doesn't do 1080p but what it does do 1080i at 60fps which is twice as fast as normal 1080p at 30fps so essentially it is the exact same thing. My tv is 1080p and I couldn't imagine a 1080p player having a noticable difference from this player and at 100 bucks this is a fucking steal.

yeah the reviews on this on amazon are phenom.

i don't have an hd tv anyway but i'm not goign to go with the most expensive and latest and greatest anyways as tech gets old real quick.

Could be a nice 'safe' way to start HD, $130 at Amazon seems like relatively cheap insurance while HD-DVD and Blu-Ray continue to duke it out. I still watch what may be the oldest surviving TV in Florida, so this winter I plan to finally step it up. Someone told me that this old Proton CRT monitor is now in some small demand from gamers, but that seems very hard for me to believe ...

$100 units are gonna give HD-DVD an awfully big boost! Funny if they beat out Blu-Ray simply by getting the bottom-end units out faster and thus reaching critical mass. Poor Sony ...
