Collecting toys costs money. You have to pay to play.

seminal or ground breaking is irrelevant.

>I think we all want that pink / red GID evil
+1

>incentive to work smarter and get more toys.
+2

>Does it count when it seems like some of the same parties are bidding on both ends?
+1 and point made.

>commodities, less of a "hobby", especially in the online world
+1

But there is also a collecting world OUTSIDE of the internet. Stores in town/out of town/out of country sought out. Plus garage sales/flea markets/antique malls.

Or does that not count?

Personally I tried to talk to a few members to get the lot off ebay for a better price. I even contacted the seller and offered him a lower starting bid of around 18000 and he may have went for it as he said he was gone think it over. But no one listens and rather justspend more money, and get into possible shill bidders. So it went higher for no reason.

What ever though..... its your money do as you please.

Some figures in this lot would have gone for good money....Hmmm... thats only because the prices have been falsely inflated as of late. I guess its a false positive ??? ....understand ??

I backed out, not because I cant afford it because I can, but I cant contribute to it on a such a large scale. A fig here and there that I really want I will go all out for. But to go all out for every older figure is just plain wrong and would be adding to this hype machine raising prices and ruining it for others. I collect and have my limits, now these limits are even lower than most starting bids. Thats just crazy.

I tell people over and over wait it out.. blah blah ...

I just this week scored a red oni still mint in bag for a great price. I've been wanting one for well over a year and passed 2-3 times because the bids where just nuts.

AND scored the yellow evil with metallic paint in a trade. So it can happen and does happen if you wait it out !!

I love my collection and its right next to my side of the couch, in my 2 deloifs, in my living room, so every night I get to see it and enjoy what I have.

Yes the thrill in getting it is a good percent, but for me to be able to see it in hand whole other level. Maybe because I also paint them and to see older paints and rare figs. I can just sit there some times and stare at the beauty of them. It something really...

I appreciate these figures in ways many don't understand. Once you paint one and get a feel for what the creator had in his mind when he made its like seeing it in another light. I'm sure any of the artist here will understand what I mean. You really get a whole other respect for the subtleties of figures.

Collect and enjoy. Don't ruin it for the rest of us and YOURSELF !!

Now I'm not saying I think Logang is right for spending this insane amount of money. I have even contacted him to tell him is fucking nuts and is killing it for others and himself. But regardless logang really does like and enjoy RxH from what I have gathered. I have talked to him many times off this board about collecting in general. He even buys customs from me. Usually RxH customs. If someone was in it only for the money they would spend all their time and effort on getting production run figures as they have a better chance increasing in value. Not customs by me or any other artist. He really does like the line enough to buy customs that wont down the line increase in value just because he likes them.

If we where to start hating people for how much they spend on RxH Pogue would be public enemy #1 but he gets respect. Which is only right, because he really loves RxH and shouldn't get shit because he makes more money and can buy what he feels.

Judge people for your self, but do it from talking with the person and not from online bashing parties or from assuming.

Some have more money and can do as they please. So far logang has been a pretty stand up guy. Time will tell how true he is but until then I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that I would give anyone else.

Congats enjoy your score.

Moving on the the next auction ......

You guys act like you will never see these again. Just wait it out and you will.

Um, now I kinda feel the need to clarify my earlier musings and comments again at the risk of redundancy. I may be wrong but it seems that some may be perceiving this discussion as being more intense than I thought it was.

Originally I was referring, maybe out of context, to people paying "vintage prices" for relatively recently released kaiju. Like, six to nine months old. I wasn't referring to logang's bids at all, and definitely didn't mean to bash him in the slightest. I wasn't even thinking of the auction that started this thread and probably should have saved my comments for a different time.

Also, when referring to how our varying degrees of expendable income naturally affect who-gets-what, I wasn't whining or expressing resentment at all. I do pretty darned well and count my blessings for that. Still, Frank's response regarding working smarter was well-received. Good response. I agree. OK 'nuff said. :-)

What does this mean? Why irrelevant?

This can be taken two ways, 1) get a better job or 2) work smarter behind the scenes and get better info and connections than others.

Chad Hensley wrote:

If this and a couple other boards disappeared, it would be a completely different scene. Sometimes I think the prices that these toys command is only because of these social networks or boards.

Yes, there is the fantasy of walking into a comic book store or antique store and finding some hidden treasure. I picked up a Western Woodring that way, but that's about all. Oh and a very early KidRobot sculpt that I bought it at retail for $35 and flipped on ebay for over $250 a week later.

The List was started by Pogue as an honors and courtesy system. People added their eBay and YJA screen names to the list on the principle that when bidding, one would not bid against someone else on the list who got there first. (Correct me if I got that wrong, OG peeps.) Earlier this year there was a debate about whether or not such a list was valid when the whole point of auctions was competition. Evidently frustrated with the way the debate was going, Pogue took the list down.

The list worked for a while, but people started making excuses for bidding against other members on the list i.e. "it's my holy grail(of the week)", I really, realy need that toy(you need stuff like insulin, not toys) and my favorite, "I didn't check the list/know it was you (I'm locomoto566 on yja and ebay).

It started being a disadvantage to those who honored the list, Glenn being one of them, and now it's gone. I use the basic vibe of the original list, don't bid up my auctions and I'll return the favor in kind, otherwise you're fair game in my book and I don't give a fuck if it is your "Grail".

I think that's fair enough locomoto. Sounds like the typical case of "nice guys finish last." It's not always true but there's a little bit of shark in all of us ... and some have laser beams attached!

In the end, nothing really matters.

Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.

This is all beanie baby shit or glass unicorn shit to the vast majority of the world.

Meanwhile, my office has a mandatory clean-out the fridge day or else it gets thrown away. I circled the floors after the cut-off time and made out like a bandit. All sorts of packaged frozen stuff. yogurts etc.

Life's simple pleasures.

PS some may equate this with stealing music, and I have a big FU waiting for them..

Jesus, if u did that at most places I've worked out you'd be looking at a case of Salmonella, or at the very least, some intense squirts. :?

really? In retrospect I looks like I was getting deals when everyone said I was paying to much. I am fairly certain I have never paid more than $300 for a RxH figure that wasn't a proto or paint sample.

I won't lie I am happy to see higher prices because I am missing so few figures (5 or 6 according to the KT list). It is somewhat validating to watch your collection appreciate in value. That said I think these prices are nuts but if logang is building a "closed" RxH collection you will probably never see a few of these RxH figures for sale again so maybe he isn't.

"I don't want to see my products being sold at a really high price. I want them to be enjoyed."

First, I don't see how this is an either-or.

Second, if we can agree that these bits of vinyl fall somewhere in the vast spectrum between The Franklin Mint and Fine Art, then they are priced that way on resales, too. CA has a statute which gives the original artist a cut of the profits on later resales of their work (brilliant!), but IIRC it doesn't even kick in at sale prices below $1000.

Finally, I think Mori expresses a sentiment, a frustration common to all the artists - and all of us too. But, I don't think the blame for flipping can fall on buyers, especially not when we are talking about relatively small differences. Selling this to a fellow SBer for $250 would be hailed as RFSO, but buying it on eBay for $440 is heinous? I don't get it (and I thought this would go $100 higher) - eBay is a relatively perfect free market, and we're all free to bid or not.
