I'm having some trouble with ours and I'd like to sort out the problem, but trying to search online is hopeless because I know things like this are usually specific to your set up.

I can help! What you have to do is not play the wii and be online at the same time, and then definitely don't use the laptop, but if you wake up every morning, and the internet is "broken again" you need to unplug it & plug it back in.

i am by no means an expert, but i have had problems with some so maybe my research while fixing them could be helpful

what kind of router? what is your isp?

i have had home routers just go bad. I get a new one and its all better.

try cycling the modem and router by turning everything off and then back on.

we have a linksys and Comcast is our ISP

basically, everything was fine when it was just the 2 computers on the network, which are both plugged in via wires.

but when I set up the Wii to be on the network wirelessly, the router will go down several times a day at random and you need to pull the plug on the back and let it power cycle.

it's an easy fix, but really annoying and there has to be some settings or something I can tweak so that we don't have to keep messing with it.

Buy a LAN adapter for your Wii so it is connected via cable instead of wireless. Wii's wireless is the worst out of the 3 systems. I had different problems when my Wii was wireless but after getting the adapter, I really haven't had any since plugging in. I had a 4port linksys and my brother and I switch to an 8port linksys so now we have 3 consoles and 3 computers online. None of them drop connection and the router hasn't blown up....actually, nothing has blown up....yet.

That's what I'm saying! I still need to get my Wii hooked up to the internet - and it has to be done wirelessly!

I had my Wii hooked up fine w/my Linksys router and computer and a laptop, but than when I moved to a new place and new ISP it all got screwy. All I did in the end was opt for the lazy way: Get the Nintendo router thing (little lighter looking thing) and popped it into my desktop. My desktop went through the router, my Wii went through the Nintendo thing hooked up to the desktop and all works fine.

If you have to reboot your router to get your internet up again or if you have trouble using multiple devices online at the same time, sounds to me like its internal DHCP server may be acting up. I've seen this happen with Linksys routers in particular. I like the idea about updating the firmware, however for a quick fix, try setting all your devices up with a unique static IP. You can do 192.168.1.? (with the last number being whatever you want, preferably 10+ or 110+, but each device needs a unique one). The subnet will be 255.255.255.0, and the gateway will be 192.168.1.1. Now the DNS1 and DNS2 numbers can be found by checking the status in the router setup page, which you can find by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser window. By setting all your devices to static IP's you won't be constantly relying on your router to supply a new one, espeescially if it happens to not be in the mood.
