 Giants
What would you like Kozik to turn into a giant?
A Smogun would be awesome.

personally i am not a big fan of the pollution monsters. I mean, if I could I would do a 30" or so Dethra as the next giant monster after the mutant evil. I think he would look awesome alll shiny and huge. I think dethra is possibly the coolest gargamel dude.
I wonder if Gargamel would be into that.
I was also thinking about doing a 3 foot Doublas based on a set of pics I have of an og Jumbo Machinder one I have.
Imight do one of my western pieces real big, but thats a discussion for another board someday.

I already stated in a whatever thread that a huge skullwing would rock.
It probably would never happen but it would rock.
Or a blobpus docross, I feel like the bigger those things are the better they look, don't think they are popular enough though.

Deathra, Doublas or a Skullwing...any of these three would be super-terrific.

Ooooh, very nice idea, Robert...I'm sure Frank's man in Manila would sculpt that one well....you'd have to find just the right size eyes, tho; I don't think Glastic/Lifetouch (the brand T9G uses) makes 'em in that scale...

I know you (Frank) like Rommel and his work, and maybe that is the determining factor for where production takes place. But since fiberglass doesn't have the same federal regulations that vinyl does, would it not be cheaper to find someone in the states that's good with fiberglass? Just wondering if there are other reasons these are made in Manila, rather than the States - or if it's just because you like Rommel and his work. And maybe it IS cheaper in Manila. I'm just curious - in the past there's been a lot of questions as to whether someone could make vinyl figures in the US...seems like fiberglass actually COULD be done here.
(I'm not asking you to look into moving production to the States - I'm really just curious about why Manila, and whether it's realistic for anyone to do similar stuff in the States.)

I got qoutes from 2 places in the us willing to do similiar small run pieces like this:
heres the problem:
sculpt:
US: 3500-5000.00
Rommel: 1000.00
mold:
US: 4000.00
rommel: free
per piece say 30":
us: 800:00-1200.00
rommel: 200-300.00
paint app:
us: 100-200per piece
rommel: included in figure price
box:
us: have to find second source, boxes maybe 30-40 each, printed.
rommel; included in price
so basically, I can get these made in the us, but something like the bigazz would cost onthe order of 1500.00-2200.00 retail, as oppossed to the 325.00 these where.
no ones gonna pay that much.
also, Rommel is a totally nice dude who really really wants to do these art pieces and is very easy and cool to deal with, also, since I strted him off and hooked him up with other people for gigs, I get priority treatment.
both the us places where pretty lame about that as I would not be a 'big customer'.

last year KR made those big fiberglass labbit stools in Brooklyn. they ended up costing aboput 1000.00 each to make, the guy took FOREVER, and while the quality was high, it was not any better than Rommels. This made the stools cost like over 2K retail. we sold them all, but thats a ridiculous price IMHO. so..we moved that to china, got basically the same quality item ata much lower cost.
I do not have more than a half dozen people willing to pay those high end prices. and my interest is with the avergae collector, a person such as myself. I cant afford really to buy stuff that costs thousands and thousands per piece, so I want o offer a competing item, in large size, small run, good quality, for a realistic price.like, just about anyone can afford 400 bucks for a 1 time big piece...how many can go 4000?

Interesting. And thanks!
That's quite a difference in price.
So pretty much there's a pro/con sheet and Rommel has all the pros and the US makers had all the cons - pretty clear why these are made in Manila.

Deathra! Although a 36" deathra would have a 30" wingspan.
Will the giants vary in size? I think I'd prefer a deathra around 20-24 inch. Plus more affordable.

Of course, I'd love to vote for a giant version of the Yamanaya Garamon sculpt- that particular sculpt would translate beautifully to the huge scale- but, alas, I know you're not a big Garamon fan, Frank....
Maybe I should get Rommel's info from you and look into it myself...
