Post Let's start a riot
Let's start a riot. In fact let's start a whole tizzy of e-tantrums and meltdowns. Or maybe, just maybe, since we are not all children anymore, let's have an intelligent discussion on the state of the BBS. There is a bunch of nonsense that is getting past the point of annoying, so let's clear the air. If you can't do so politely, and argue with valid points, agree to disagree at times, or simply act like an adult, no need to post in the thread or on the bbs.

First off, the elitist toy mentality has gone too far. None of you, no matter how long you have been on the board, are above anyone else. Get over the Fresh Meat insults, name calling, shit-stirring and general assholeness that seems to come with the slightest bit of perceived power. I would think we would have all learned our lessons by now. This isn't high school or junior high, so get over it. All of you know better, or have you lost sight of the reason that you are here?

Secondly, as much as I dislike [expletive deleted]'s or half of that other stuff coming out of the brackish water of unoriginality, it doesn't mean that you don't, which is fine. You can like what you like, but keep your posts here on topic. If you want to talk about that stuff, go to KR, not here. Don't sell it here either. You can call it KR hate if you want, and that is fine, but this is not KR's board, so leave it be. It is sort of like knowing that two friends of yours don't get along, you can't expect them to go out on the town with you at the same time. KR remains a catch all term for all things western and poorly manufactured with little style, taste or originality. Western toys with good taste and high QC (Biskup, Baseman, etc.) will be allowed in without reproach.

Third, Frank and Havingmysay. Really guys, it has gone too far. You guys have gone beyond tilt and somewhere into "I hate you so much that I want to move in with you and buy a small dog together." Enough is enough. HMS, I know you dislike Frank's perceived disregard and rape of all things you hold sacred. I know Frank is making a lot of product with legitimate manufacturers that few others get the oportunity to do. Neither of you is right, and both of your are right. Get over it and let it lie. Both of you need to quit feeding the endless threads and diatribes of 10-second half witty responses to each other that go on for pages and pages. Get over it or get gone. You guys are both fairly rational adults, why the need to respond to everything?

Fourth, internet vigalantes. We all know you are here to right the wrongs of cyberspace and toy collecting, but email us instead. I don't need 20 of you cavaliering through the bbs taking on every perceived slight with the "bludgeon and destroy" mentality. When someone crosses the line, email us, and we will deal with it accordingly. We have enough problems already, and we don't need more. Let us know what sucks, and we can deal with it much more effectively.

Fifth, I am busy. I cannot be here every day like I wish I was able to. In that time, you ALL have to take accountability for the state of the BBS. If you see something you disagree with, post about it and get involved, but please, do it in a polite and rational way. If you see stuff that you don't like, but say nothing, you are as much to blame as everyone else. Keep the snide comments and witty disses to yourself. Most of them are not as funny as you think they are. Rational debate is worth so much more.

Sixth, Watch people's actions not their words. Many of the nicest people on this board are real snakes when the chips are down, and many of the grumpiest folks on the board are the biggest promoters and supporters of this toy scene out there. Watch how people really act, not how and what they say, and some of the relationship issues on the board that many are confused by will be much more clear.

Lastly, the last set of mods I just brought on to help maintain the bbs have gone awol. Actually, everytime someone gets a forum section or mod status, life takes them out of the game. We have pogue still, and Mutonismyfriend in a part time status while he slaves away at a more time consuming job, but everyone else is having a baby or something else that is pulling them away. I am soliciting for new mods, but not sure who, how many or when. No promises to anyone. Additionally, anyone I feel may actually be a little too close emotionally to the bbs I will probably not make a mod, as the seem to lack the ability to really detach themselves and deal with things in an unemotional way.

Okay, I gave you plenty to start with. Let's hear some feedback.

-brian

Finally someone with real authority puts their foot down. There really isn't anything to debate. Let's all just work together and make this board a bit more user-friendly (it's not easy I know).

A great post, and a lot of great points Brian.

I've been finding lately that when I get irritated with something, I automatically look at the flipside of things and think about how someone else might be feeling about the situation.
A great tactic, for me, is writing out what you feel, and instead of hitting the submit button just click the banner at the top of the screen. I can't take credit for that one as someone else passed it on to me.

the other thing is that everyone is a Fresh Meat at some point, and every person on this board isn't proficient in every toy line. Share the knowledge if you have it. You make some new friends, I know that I have. We're all bastards sometimes, but we can all be nice and get along.

I love this board. I can't wait to see (and contribute) to the new database and with everyone's support this can be a great community.
Thanks Brian!

Brian can calm down an angry internet mob like no one else. This post and the new banner give the place a nice vibe. :D
I think sometimes the problem is that the rules are so vaguely defined. Obviously we can't have a list of every toy that is and isn't allowed, but different people have different ideas about what is and isn't cool, and people like to play police when they really shouldn't. Of course the self government of this board is part of what makes it so cool so I'd hate to give that up. I'm sure you guys'll figure it out though.

You're absolutely right. I've found myself taking the bait far too often, recently. I need to practice putting the keyboard down a little more.

Okay, fine... I go away to Maui for a week and the retrograde motion of Mars makes the place goes nuts...

as for me, im going to limit my posts about anything I myself am involved in to either the american idols forum or the for sale area.

so, if you hate me, all you have to do is not read my threads.

so easy. I did go off recently, I suppose it was delayed reaction to a few dozen hate bombs lobbed my way.

I also recommend that the next time someone has a big problem with me, just go ahead and give me a call

415-577-4707 and just say it to my face instead of screwing over someones thread or cluttering this board. I answer that phone 24/7.

nix on a small dog I am a cat person.

DUDE, you just explained my entire last relationship in this one sentence:

"I hate you so much that I want to move in with you and buy a small dog together."

New tagline, boom!

I was gone for a bit and I still don't even know what the hell I missed... when I get mad I go to this place called "outside" its pretty cool, but hard to explain.

Thanks Bryan

All the arguements were entertaining at first and then became a drag very quickly. Thanks for hopefully putting a stop to it Mr. Flynn.

The funny thing about all of this is that toy collectors are getting snippy with other toy collectors...this is the point in the movies where one of the "cool" kids yells out "nerd fight" and all of the fighting nerds get their asses kicked by Biff Dipshit at the end of the show...

Possibly tensions are high because the end of the small community is here and the waves of unwashed vinyl zombies are crashing against the doors of Super 7...more interest=more competition=less toys for you and me...

I deal with it by reminding myself that I am not made of money and this hobby is stupid expensive anyway---gotta be more selective over what I buy and more tenacious in chasing down what I want, same as everybody else.

I love wasting my time on this board, and there are a lot of great people here with a ton of knowledge about toys I love, so I keep coming back for more...I will be glad to see the bickering come to an end and get a little more of that "we are in this together" attitude back online...

Peace,
Scott

Awesome. I'm glad both sides are being covered. Most arguments here aren't my business so I stay out, but it totally takes away from my enjoyment of this board/hobby.

"KR Kids" (or whatever) take it somewhere else, no disrespect.

Snobs, don't be cranks, who cares really? All in fun.

That's why I come here day after day, FUN! I never knew toys were such serious business to some people.

I'm sure I'll remain confused . . . relationships were never really a strong point :D

Other than that . . . wise words Mr F!
