if youre going to eat chicken or fish, why try to call yourself a vegetarian? i find it insulting when i come across someone who calls themselves vegan, but doesnt have a problem wearing animal products. i knew this girl who was so into animal rights and shit and labeled herself vegan, but when i called her out on eating M&Ms and hershey's kisses she got all offended and said 'you don't cheat at all?'
if you're gonna eat meat, eat meat, but don't try and pretend to be something you're not.

IMHO that's stupid. People should just accept that it was your choice for whatever reasons even if they can't "respect" it. It's not that big of a deal, just a matter of personal conviction and possibly health.
Why not just let people define who they are by their own terms? This self-righteous nonsense could go on for days, and at the end of those days, it'd still be more ego than sense. I dunno ... live and let live I say, or eat and let eat or whatever.

Mine too. That's why I prefer the succulents among them. They just want to be ignored at this time of year. Those whiney wimpy meant-to-be-in-a-forest "houseplants" are needy, needy.

I need a chart or a graph..... i'm not so sure what the connection is... i think deep down collecting these things you need to have a very punk rock/who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks personality... and for me i got into vegan/vegetarianism through punk and hardcore.
We came off the sam boat, It was Gorilla Biscuits and YOT that got me to vegetarianism, started 15 years ago on Dec 26th, I was also a butcher at the time which realllly helped make the jump. I went vegan 3 years later on Thanksgiving, I don't know what date that is but I count this Thanksgiving as my 13 year.
Its going to be veggie ham, wheat roast, butternut squash and potatos for me, not tofurkey
But everyone have a great holiday

I hate birds, fish are like who cares, even veggie heads eat them, and cows are so stupid that if we weren't breeding them to eat they would probably be extinct. I also got bitched out by some dumb chick who was saying how I was dumb for eating like that, and I go in her fridge and she has an assload of POM juice. I was like ummm you know they killed like a ton of monkeys and if you were educated at all about what you preach you would boycott it. Cruelty of animals is bad. Eating stupid ones like chickens, cows, delicious pigs and yummy tuna like blue fin (as long as its fished without harming other animals) is totally fine with me. Hell if I somehow found out people were delicious, I'd probably start eating the stupid ones too, well if it became legal. It would bring America way up to the top of the worlds IQ list too, kids would be studying their asses off. on another note I totally agree there is nothing more punk rock then going DUUUuuuuUUUude killing cows for food is wrong, lets go get some fresh organic veggies, then skipping off holding hands to the nearest Whole Foods. if eating stupid people were legal i'd watch your back.
HAHA why you can't even eat something derived from an animal dude, and if I am stupid for how I eat and educated people don't eat animals, then all the smart people wouldn't eat me even if it was legal and therefore I'd be safe even according to you, dumbass.
That comment wasn't really necessary though I was just sharing my opinon, I didn't call you a pansy because of what you think or say that my right wing christian grandma is more punk than you.

I never said pigs were stupid, just delicious
My brother actually had a pet pig that was super smart, we had him for about 8 years he was part of the fam. He still didn't have the power to make bacon taste bad though.
Time for a new avatar, for being so kind and caring towards animals veggie heads always seem to get easily annoyed with actual people.

This made me think of this Jim Gaffigan quote:
Quote: Vegetarians always try to impress you like "I haven't eaten meat in five years." Oh yeah, well I haven't eaten a banana in a month and you don't see me bragging about it.
 Much respect to vegetarians/vegans though.

Having given some of the comments and criticisms here further thought, I realized that I've only ever picked up definitions of vegetarianism from friends and associates who offer their own varying definitions. I checked out the Wikipedia entry on the phrase. It's very robust and may be of interest to anyone following this thread.

I wouldn't really call what you have expressed so much a view, but rather a pseudo intellectual moral justification for a status quo diet.
Is your stance eating/killing things that are "stupid" is ok?

I've known quite a few vegans and vegetarians (not to mention carnivores) that liked animals better than people. Although to me it's sort of a pointless distinction.

My stance is eating things like cows, chickens and pigs that are bred to be eaten is okay with me. Although I respect peoples views on it. It wasn't an actual thing of how smart an animal was.
As far as other stuff like animal testing and hunting I don't agree with that. I hunt toys not animals.
Vegitarians are almost like vampires, the rules change depending on who is telling the story and some are kind creatures that realise their lifestyle isn't for everyone and keep in the shadows and others are radicalists that think their kind is the only one that should exist and everyone needs to recognize that. They just feed on different stuff.

That's kind of a circular argument, isn't it? I would think that most animals that you eat are bred to be eaten, unless you're out hunting kangaroos or whales.
Just saying.

Well there are only certain types that they do breed for eating. I know you can get buffalo at places and ostrich but they aren't traditional bred by man for that. So I guess it just applies to cows, chicken and pigs. Fish are open game.
Doing things responsibly though, like free range cows and chickens and following proper fishing should be enforced though. Totally not eating animals will never happen, unless we eat them all.
You know whats suprisingly good is snakes, they taste like chicken and eel only not as oily, and they make awesome boots.

I'd never eat snakes not that I think their icky or anything like that. I have a pair of Aussie Womas ( species of python) as pets. This is specially true for wild cought snakes. If you eat any undercooked meat you have ten times more of a chance to get some kind of parasitic worms than eating fresh cought fish. And I don't think the skin makes good boot leather. Snake skin is one of the most fragile leather you can use on boots, specially western type boots.

I agree HMS. I have gone to allot of punk shows and I know allot of punks who cry vegan or vegetarian but wear leather boots or a leather jacket. I eat meat and I always have and probably always will. Back in the day I got shit for X-ing up my hands before a show and eating some random food(pepperoni pizza, carne asada burrito, etc)by punks who wore leather jackets and Doc Marten's but were veggies. I don't push my shit on anyone and I don't like it when others try to push their shit on me.
Also I hate Thanksgiving(and most holidays). I like it because I get to see my family in LA and get paid to do it and I get to eat some good food...that's it!

I hate to burst you bubble but almost everything you own has some kind of animal bi product in it. Most of these products could be made with something else but they aren't right now.

Sooooo....a GOOD vegetarian should keep their views to themsleves, while you can blather on trying to extoll the virtues of eating meat? Now you're just embarrassing yourself.
