Post Is it just me......
Reading the B/S/T froum tonight I kinda got the idea that we around here are getting all high and mighty all of a sudden. Didn't alot of you escape over here to get away from that on KR? I am not going to go into a huge thing right now - but I like the vibe around here and I like the people - I can joke with you and you don't get to pissed off at me and we all seem to get along quite well. When a new person comes along there is a learning curve I am sure for them. Need to get acclamated to the vibe and what this board is all about. We should shove it done their throats that this is RFSO!!! Wooo HOOOOOO!!!! Get he fuck out of here. You just become like the thing yo have escaped from on the other board.

I am just asking that people think about what this board is about and how you want to have it represented. If you don't like something - point it out. You like something point it out. DON"T jam it down peoples throats.

I am done. Band practice awaits.

I was thinking the same thing.
When a certain eratic person called everyone here holier than thou,
everyone was like no no..
but here people are doing the same exact thing..
to people looking for JAPANESE toys..
granted not the real head that everyone here is coveting so currently
but still a japanese toy..
not even those scum that just want to sell everything to us

I have felt the same way of late - and on previous occasions. The RFSO war cry seems heavy handed at times. I like to think it's more tongue in cheek or a consensus than a right of passage.

I'm with you. I was just laughing at that response, taking it a little too serious. Okay, back too the fun.

To me RFSO means I don't have to explain why I collect Bemon vinyls. It does not mean I will pass judgement on those who don't or choose to collect something else. I hope skullbrain continues to grow and that means new members are always welcome. Save the drama for your mom'a...Steven

I agree with lots of what Dr T says. My personal opinion is that we should welcome new people, not become elistist, treat everyone equally and provide a forum where people are free to ask questions, find out stuff about the coolest toys around and get infected with the same enthusiasm we have. We should also atleast give people a chance to post a few times before forming opinions.

As for RFSO, I personally love it - but that is helped by how I view it. To me, RFSO is all about a group of like minded people who truly love the toys, and in 10 or 15 years time will still love the toys. They are in it for the long haul. It is not about people who are in this solely for profit or because its trendy. It is also about being inclusive and welcoming of like-minded individuals - sharing info, sharing the excitement of new toys, new designs, the thrill of the chase, finding that sought after toy and the weird but heady smell of new vinyl. In other words its for Real fans, and its the shit - Real Fan Shit Only.

I'm going to express my thoughts on it in a related but somewhat roundabout way.

I love these toys. just like you guys and a whole bunch of other people. I "care" about them, as dumb or weird as that sounds, just like you guys. I don't want to see anything "ruin" them, or the scene, or anything like that. people get protective of things they enjoy.

however, toys shouldn't be ALL you're interested in, especially just one line of toys. I think it's great to collect anything diehard, and have a really great collection. and I know to do that it takes time and devotion. but it's good to be interested in other things too and it's good to talk about them. I know that might sound really silly, but I really like it when I can talk to someone on a toy board about the stuff we collect, but then talk about movies or music or what tv shows they like or anything. it's nice to know the personality that goes along with the screenname, and subsequently the person behind it. my favorite people are the ones I know more about and can talk to about other things. my favorite section is probably the "whatever" section.

I actually think it's sad sometimes when all people talk about here is toys. I know that's what the board is about, but it's okay to be interested in and talk about other things. it's not just solely about impressing your internet friends, only partially.

Well said Skylar! I'm an avid fan and user of the Whatever section too!

This whole thread is a great example of what is making this board more than just a toy OCD enabler :), and - dare I use the C word again - a community.

We need to get this back on topic. We should post the most 'non-cool' or downright embarassing piece of vinyl in our collections that we love..

who's first?

Hey folks, I'm new to this board, and I was a little undecided about joining up at first. Mostly because I'm not into some of the stuff like SB that seems to be the main interest here. But I can appreciate any cool toys, and enjoy seeing what gets other people excited.

But I'm glad I joined, everyone has been very welcoming and super helpful in answering questions. But most importantly everyone here has a great sense of humor, so the board is fun to visit.

Toys and collecting toys can be an obsession, and it's great to be passionate about it, but in the end it has to be fun. Otherwise, what's the point? Most folks here seem to get that.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

In general, most of my feelings have already been eloquently expressed by others.

I most definitely concur with these sentiments:

Quote:
To me RFSO means I don't have to explain why I collect Bemon vinyls. It does not mean I will pass judgement on those who don't or choose to collect something else.

It is rare, at least for me where I am, to not have to preface damn near everything you say with a bloody 10 minute explanation as to what in the blue hell one is talking about. So yes, I think the fandom community here is important and really welcoming. Just like this comment:

Quote:
As for RFSO, I personally love it - but that is helped by how I view it. To me, RFSO is all about a group of like minded people who truly love the toys, and in 10 or 15 years time will still love the toys. They are in it for the long haul. It is not about people who are in this solely for profit or because its trendy.

I think this is the core of RFSO -- the love of the toys and related culture. In my admittedly somewhat brief experience so far, everyone has been very considerate, helpful, and enthusiastic to a great degree. There is warmth and a sense of humor here, something not found on many forums, regardless of subject. I get the feeling that the majority of folk on this board are here because of the love -- not the profit.

Case in point, the upstanding Mr. Hotrod, who was willing to let me have a go at something we both wanted on ebay. That was an astonishingly awesome thing to do, and worthy of generating some great toy karma for him. Would other boards have such kind individuals? It seems doubtful. We love this stuff and seem to support each other... as further point I will thank VGA and Dr. T again for helping me further my collection efforts with some nice deals.

So, basically, RFSO, should be considered more of a rally for those with vinyl in their veins, rather than an elitist, exclusionary "battle cry". At least, IMHO.

And for that matter, a rallying call for those who wish to get the vinyl fever. ^_^

Remember the line from Gremlins -- "Take a look around, mister, see if there's something you like." Around here, you are just as likely to find weird critters, too, for that matter. ^_^

I'm still learning, and I've gotten nothing but great help and conversation. So thank you, sincerely, everyone.

And further, Bob has a good concept with that slogan. ^_^

Enough heavy matters for now -- let's talk about vinyl toys, drinking, punk music, horror movies, and where to get "bruised" Pushead shoes, 'kay?

:D

I post all the western vinyl stuff I think is great in the American Idols forum, I wish more of you did. I enjoy talking about good western toys here even tough most of you thought my punk [expletive deleted] was lame (BTW-it is rad).
The RFSO stuff is nice outside this board when people hate on your toys. When someone on the KR board drops in on a showoff forum to tell you they don't get it and you suck, it is nice when someone responds with a "RFSO" post.
However, this seems to be happening less lately and many more people have started to catch on to these toys. I keep posting Japanese vinyl pictures on the KR board to try and draw people in. Once they are here be nice, unless they are 1st post salesmen. They don't know all the rules they just want to know about the toys. I remember when I walked into S7 and reached past loads of SB to buy a Red Pollard. Stay humble.
