 Chaola the Ugandan Mutant
my first real custom. they say you are your own worst critic, and right now i am feeling this one is a near-disaster
looking on the bright side, though, i practiced a lot of techniques on this figure, so more than anything it was, and will continue to be, a learning experience.
problems i had were
-not mixing the paint to the right consistency... leaving a dusty looking finish on the brown surface
-trouble with masking... definitely need to practice this
-mixing colors. elementary stuff here- brown! and i still seemed to mess it up. wasted a lot of paint being impatient
-hand painting - i need to figure out how to get the brush strokes out. i could start with a better brush.... my bristles were too long i think
if any of you pros have tips on these problems or anything you may notice, please feel free to share. everyone can learn from my mistakes!
anyway... here is attempt #1 at a real custom. after more practice i will probably strip this and try it again.

Kimchee??? I'm not doubting your knowledge of wrestling(I took out some old wrasslin' videos and yeah it's kimchee) but isn't Kimchee a (smelly)Korean soup???
So how 'bout it? A kimchee figure.

Assuming you are using acrylic paint, thin it to about the consistency of whole milk. You want to do multiple very thin layers instead of one thick layer. This will get rid of the brush strokes. Getting light colors like yellow to show up over brown will require you to paint the design with white first then going over the white with yellow.
I'm glad to know that all those years of painting war gaming miniatures have not gone to waste.

The crudeness of it fits the source though, I dig it.

it's vcolor paint - it dries very fast so i need a better brush that will put the paint on smoother

yeah, i wanted to hand paint the stars/moon and face paint for that reason. they are hand applied on the guy and he's a wrestler afterall
the rough edges work in this case, but would not for others
and the parts that are masked and the even skin tone need work

This could be inspiration for you to customize a 9" Galtan.

I'm not familiar with vcolor paint. Is there a retardant you can add to it to slow drying time? What sort of brushes are you using?>
