When I read the Dark Tower books, that's how I visualized those lobster-like creatures that lived in the surf and bit off the heroes' fingers. ("Dud-a-chuk? Dud-a-chum!")

Cool another Stephen King DT fan, when DT7 came out I had to refresh by going through the older ones. Can't wait for the THE LITTLE SISTERS OF ELURIA and the revised edition of THE GUNSLINGER. Whenever they release them

Thanks for posting the link! Fascinating. One of the reactions to "real life" footage from 9/11/01 in NYC was that the scenes looked like something from a movie. "Independence Day" was the one I was reminded of. Now we have movies playing on the visual and visceral impact of 9/11 in NYC. Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" was criticized for aspects that were called distasteful "9/11 porn." Perhaps enough time has passed that the same sorts of criticisms won't be levelled against this fantasy film. We'll see. I think it's impossible not to think of 9/11, watching this footage. I hope that doesn't sound insensitive. It's just that those images are now part of the collective memory.

WOW! Really does play up the 9/11 angle! But that is exactly what you want. Japan had the bomb which gave birth to Godzilla, this is right in that same vein.
Now the monster just has to be a wealthy fundamentalist religious wacktard and the movie will be perfect. Oh and Barry Bonds kills it after administering a lethal shot of steroids to his left eye and makes a kamikaze run for the creature when he turns 500ft tall. That would be how I would handle it, but I have an imagination powerful enough to crush a fucking star, so I don't expect too much of this making the final cut.

Allegedly the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie will premiere with "Cloverfield." By the way, as you may have seen, that monster image I'd posted earlier is NOT the actual Cloverfield monster, it's just speculative fan art.
I was very psyched to learn that the actual monster was designed by my boyhood best friend Craig Hayes, co-founder of Phil Tippett Studios, who did the special effects. Although Craig is well-known for many of his accomplishments the best-known seems to be the insects for the Starship Troopers movies. Allegedly you see quite a bit of the monster in the film. They've sure done a good job of keeping its look under wraps!

Wikipedia mentions that Abrams was inspired to do this movie after visiting a toy store in Japan with his son. I think this bodes well for us kaiju fans.

Me too. Personally I'd love to see the short story by him "Shunned House" about a vampiric blob creature living under a New England house that drains and kills families for generations made into a film.
As far as Cloverfield. I try not to buy into the hype but the previews do look. Then again previews are made to look good and sometimes I wish that is all I saw.

One week to go.
Still more viral madness.
Tidowave is an anti-Tagruato activist site.
Jamie and Teddy seems to be some young woman's blog-video site where she tells off some unfaithful boyfriend. I haven't watched all the movies yet so I have no clue how this relates to the movie, but it does, if in a "meta" sort of way. Click on the photo. You'll need a password: jllovesth
Aw the heck with it. Just get on with the giant monster action!

 Re: Cloverfield
Sooooo what does everyone think of the new 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer? John Goodman I like him, theories? I loved the first one so eager to see what this will be about. From the trailer all you get is a bomb shelter hiding out premise- but what is above on the surface?

 Re: Cloverfield
Trailer looks dope! Kinda wish I didn't know it was a Cloverfield sequel though, that seems like it could have been a sweet reveal.

 Re: Cloverfield
I was reading online there is a debate whether it is or not, and the budget was only 5 million compared to the original's 25 million. Who knows. Looks interesting though and sometimes you can do more with less and build tension with the right chemistry of actors.

 Re: Cloverfield
I would read this about it, very informative. Apparently, it's simply a struggling film that was re-fitted with minor Cloverfield references to generate more interest for it. Sad that it's not a true Cloverfield sequel. The viral campaign for that film was one of the most extensive, immersive of its kind. It would be great if they brought some of that back to expand even further on the world they built.

 Re: Cloverfield
^^ Yeah I read that as well.
One another note do we have a new movies thread here? I saw Hateful Eight and Revenant while back home in PA. Both excellent films!

 Re: Cloverfield
The new trailer prompted me to re-watch the original...still holds up. Looking forward to the new one.
