I dont have anything against the folks in the section. I'd like to think those I dont know are all nice people whom I would dig chatting with. I dont mind hearing about who they are, what they collect so on etc. But just a photo of them? Thats the beef for me. It comes across as an elitist ego boost. Obviously not intentional, nor is my criticism a bash on them but rather on the layout/format of how it was put together.
I think the section is a good idea but heres what I would like to see next time. Small headshot of the person, like 1x1, personal info. The rest are shots of their collection.

I have to disagree.
I was actually hoping for maybe some sexier poses, maybe by a fire place, and a centerfold would be AWESOME. I also want to know do they like long walks on the beach underneath the moonlight? What turns them on? What is their turn offs?
I mean seriously, we have all seen pictures of toy collections, thats old news bears.

Brian asked me to be a part of the section. I have known him for years and knew I collested a ton of different stuff so I accepted and contributed. We were told to take a pic of use with our fave toy - one no Collection shots. It didn't want to turn into "who's dick is bigger" article (pardon my johnson reference there ladies of the board).
Now - CS you should of seen the pic I sent they didn't use. Lets just say the house covered up the most important part.
Hey - too each their own. Some like certain sections some love others. Pics and aricles on stuff (with words) = knowledge!

Seriously? Wow, I am totally secure with the size of my collection. It may not be as big as others but Im cool with it. It excites me to look at big collections.

You'd be surprised at how many people don't want to take photos of their complete collection, much less have a headshot photo next to a collection photo.

My thpughts on the collector section were these:
1. give a place to see the people behind the hobby. For many people the comradery is just as important as the toys, and I wanted to aknowledge that community.
2. I made sure to pick some unknown small time folks that have begun collecting just recently, as well many long-term collectors. I wanted it to big and small, new and old. I did this purposely so it would not appear as the "ego-boost" section. I wanted to show a good cross section of people from vaious interests in life. Also, I wanted to put faces to many of the "mythos" folks out there -matt alt, alan yen, etc. How many of you really know them other than their name? Maybe now is a good time to get a little more info.
3. I really wanted to get a shot of "the" toy for each person. I stayed away from collection shots for a few reasons -the obvious "my dick is bigger than yours" problem, the fact that many people are uncomfortable showing off their collection, and that many people simply don't want to get hounded by the mass of people knowing what you have and trying to trade it from you for a pile of lint and used dog biscuits.
4. My biggest goal here, was to find the reason, or the story behind the descent into toydom, as well as japanese toydom. What pushed you over the edge, what really kicked it off for you? To me, this is a very interesting story from each person, as they are all unique.
Maybe akumaizer can be in the next one! I know he has toys!

I liked the collector section - the glossy layout and big pictures made the rest of the mook AWESOME to look at - don't see why you'd change it for that part. Loved it all - great read - well done S7!!! Better hop to on the new one though, i'm getting impatient

Taupe . . . I think it's the über limited liver flavour from '06. Unfortunately I'm already good on the proto lint . . . I would be real interested in any GID if you have it though.
Hope you and all the S7 crew overindulged to the enth degree in the name of Christmas (or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate) and are now feeling suitably remorseful.

Regardless of who's in it, the Mook exceeds my expectations - teh design is very clean, and the photography, especially in the SecretBase section is excellent. I would love a print of page 52, the translucent Skullbees.
Personally I would have liked a larger size book purely beacuse teh pic are so great, but its sizing is in keeping with teh Mook tradition.
Anyone who took teh time to sign-up for this board (apart from Viagra_penis_enlarger_259) will not be disappointed, in fact this is an essential purchase!
Give em to friends as well, shame Christmas is almost over.

Received the mook on Monday; spent much of my Xmas relaxin' time yesterday perusing it. Beautiful; so worth the wait. The Toho kaiju pictorial is remarkable- eye candy in the extreme. Secret Base and RxH really aren't my bag, but out of sheer enjoyment of the layout and design, I pored over those sections in their entirety again and again. The writing is uniformly great. I really enjoyed the interview w/ Shin; my head took a spin when I read the part about him finding the packaged Ultra Q vinyls in the garbage at that warehouse!
GREAT JOB, S7!

I really appreciated the favorite toy section. I am really overwhelmed when I see massive collection pics. It was really cool to see every collector had a whole different special toy and reason why.
Tongue you looked the happiest with your toy and you don't look over 39.
