Well that had some pretty interesting stuff.

I've noticed that film on vinyl before. It says that the "leaching" of the oily substance onto the surface of vinyl can also draw out the antioxidants that keep our toys safe. Great. Now I'm going to have nightmares of my collection being reduced to grease spots on the shelf.

I learned something today.

There is a way to get around all this. You can purchase certain sealable plastic bags which can prevent oxidation. Some can even protect from UV or static if needed. Trouble is the plastic bags themselves are PLASTIC so u'd have to replace them after a few good years.
