General question..I don't own a console or play video games HOWEVER I need to buy one for a surprise bday.

Anyway..I was wondering if when you buy a new game (NBA live 08) is there any difference between ps2 and ps3 versions? Or...is the only difference... that you can play online for the ps3?

Definitely the graphics will be better on the PS3 version. How wide a margin it is depends on the particular game, my guess is this game probably looks quite a bit better on PS3.

Are you buying the console AND the game? Or does someone already have a PS3? Because remember, PS3 will not play every PS2 game. Likewise, the PS3 includes a Blu-ray drive, not a bad deal considering the unit as a whole is about the same price as many stand-alone Blu-ray players.

Anyway..Interesting and thanks. No my friend only has a ps2 but wants a game that just came out...(i know he's buying a ps3 later this year) but I want to get him a game that is for the ps2. Later when he buys the ps3...he'll be able to get the same game for the ps3 console. But I want to make sure it's pretty much the same thing.

Just make sure that when he buys the PS3 he doesn't get the cheapest one they just released because it will not play ps2 games. I believe it is the 40gig version. Tell him to buy the 80gig.

I think it is funny that this is one of Sony's big selling points for the Ps3 but we still can't get a release date on it and it should have come out 8 months ago.
