YES I said it the original Wickerman sucked! So many better movies made around that time. It's over-rated dribble IMO. Besides whenever I say something here you have to have the opposite opinion it seems

One of my all time favorite movies. So eerie. Great soundtrack as well....

I can't believe some folks hate on the OG Wickerman -- I saw it with a pretty large group of friends in the past 6 months or so, and I think out of ~10 people I was the only one who enjoyed it. What's not to love? It' just so weird, yet not too far off-the-mark at least as far as its representation of the pagan belief system. It has a pretty deep social commentary on the role of the church and state in dictating people's mores and beliefs, primarily regarding sexuality. The soundtrack is awesome. Some cute pagan chicks who don't look like burning man rejects. Again I ask, what's not to love?

Thanks for the review, Skylar. I was intrigued before, but now I'm downright anxious to see it. My only worry is if the whole thing is filmed in the spazzy Jitter-O-Vision of the trailer - the last film I saw like that was Dancer in the Dark, which made me physically ill (although the plot and acting might have contributed to that as well). Oh, and No Country For Old Men was amazing, I have to agree.

you might have a problem with this then, because the whole thing really is jittery and taken from a handheld camera perspective.

I would say it's one of the films strengths (adds realism) but also biggest weaknesses (it's just downright hard to watch).

I think No Country For Old Men was scarier than any horror movie I've seen in the last 10 years

As far as The Orphanage, it wasn't anything new or original in any way, but it was still pretty effective and if you like those slick, stylized ghostly supernatural thrillers you'll enjoy it

Liked the first half a lot. Hated the people. Hoped they all died from the get go. The realism that the camcorder creates gets destroyed later as it just got too ridiculous to be holding on to that damn thing forever. Not to mention how ridiculous and unrealistically the people acted. Also, my girlfriend said to me that this must take place in a world in which Godzilla doesn't exist, as that would probably be the first thing anyone would say after seeing stuff like that.

I don't remember if this has already been said, but you know ... the actors had no idea what the movie was going to be when they auditioned. They did screen tests using fake scripts and scripts from other JJ Abrams projects. One of the actresses, for some reason, said that she'd never do a "blind" audition like that again. She stayed with the project but evidently didn't want a monster movie on her resume. Sounds sort of dumb to me, like the actress who whined about being in "Alien." Excuse me? Nobody remembers you from anything else! This movie will be remembered, even if it's not perfect. But then ... name one giant monster attack movie that didn't have some annoying factor that didn't seem like it needed to be there. I even felt that way about "The Host," despite the fact that most critics liked it for having all that dysfunctional family drama. At least it really delivered on the monster score. It sounds like "Cloverfield" does too. I have to wait until Saturday morning to see it, but am very excited, and happy to hear that people mostly like it.

as I said, it has it's flaws. these are some of them.

I didn't like the people either, but I felt that they were still realistic. they don't always act realistically, but the dialogue I though was realistic, as inane as it is at times. however, unfortunately, that's what it would really sound like if people like that were filming themselves being attacked.

Headed to the theatre right now to catch the midnight showing, super excited for it the movies by me have this on a 7 story IMAX screen for the debut.

Saw it earlier tonight and yes it has it's flaws but as a whole I thought it was awesome. First 20-30 minutes are sucky but after that the fun happens and continues to happen through the end. All in all I thought it was a good movie experience. I mean hen was the last time a good monster movie came out?

This is a movie about the faceless people in those screaming crowds you've seen in so many kaiju flicks. There are no scientists trying to figure out how to save the day, no scenes where the president is arguing with his generals about what must be done. Don't look for an explanation of what is happening and why, just pick a seat towards the back of the theater and enjoy the ride.

Loved it. Will probably see it again.

And Akira Ifukube fans should definitely stay through the credits, it's a real treat!

Saw it and enjoyed it. i avoided a lot of the hype but liked how it didn't seem like a sequal.. It wasn't high art but it definitely made me think about it afterwards. It's rare that a movie has that effect on me.

And SKYLAR...no country for old men kicked ass. Great movie. Love McCarthy.

Ho-lee SHIT. I just saw it. My god... I was actually terrified by this movie, and monster/sci-fi/horror movies don't tend to freak me out. I mean, abject terror -- like, bring some depends and a barf bag to Cloverfield, because your stomach will knot up about 20 minutes in, and won't stop, and you just might piss yourself.

Wow. Freaking awesome, but I AM freaked. This might actually give me nightmares.

I dunno, I thought the first 20 minutes were important, it would have been lame if it just kicked in right at the beginning of shit going down. You need some kind of connection to the characters, and have a frame of reference for why they're doing what they're doing. I actually thought the acting was pretty good, and the levity of the cameraman was important, because of not for that I would have been even MORE freaked out.

I probably will see this again in the theater, because IMHO it's a unique cinema experience. While it is done "in the style" of Blair Witch (found footage), Blair Witch it is not.

I think lovers of kaiju will really dig this movie -- because man, this gives you a sense of just what it would be like to be smack dab in the middle of a totally over-the-top monster attack on Manhattan. And it's pretty scary.

I mean, it's no Matango, that's for sure, but....

Just saw and I was somewhat disappointed. Not by the story, but rather by the "Blair Witch" type delivery. Shaky, reality, first person POV camera action gave both me and my wife nothing but headaches and a feeling of nausea. This movie really isn't for everyone.

Second thing was you never really get to see exactly how the Kaiju looks like throughout the movie. Just can't recall the image of the creature in u're head cuz there was never a chance for it to be burnt into u're memory. Or maybe was that part the idea to be mysterious all through and through??

Am I alone on this?
