Funny you should say that because it was a real toss up between gold or silver. I really like the gold because it seemed to better represent what I was after, but silver could be great because it tarnishes.
Real silver leaf, being real silver, would actually change over time as it would tarnish. That being the case, the skullwing would actually change over time. I think this would be really cool, especially once it got really dark.
Something to consider perhaps?

Or you could clear coat the area you dont want to tarnish so that over time a pattern would appear

Hey.... That could be really wild. The slow appearance of a pattern or something. That's a great idea Lash.
Now where did I put that box of extra skullwings?
Kidding... Kidding...

Try model masters silver crome foil..Its a little thicker than silver leaf but will self adhere and does not tarnish..

I actually have copper too. I used this stuff in a lot of the art work I was making a while back. When I came across it again it sparked this idea and the rest is history. Or perhaps this is just the beginning?

To paraphrase from Butthead (of all people):
This is... quite possibly... the coolest thing I've ever seen...
Shining with total fierce hyper awesome-ocity!!!! So cool!
As for other metals, definitely something to consider...
Wouldn't a rusted, oxidized Skullwing be very Pushead in style? Someone should do that, methinks...
Something similar to that amazing Rust Boy in the customs thread, only with real metal, it would really oxidize...
heh... coolness...
And great photoshop job, loco!!

that is very cool. How much did that gold leaf set you back? What would happen if someone asked you to make another one.....what would that cost?

not to take anything away from plover because that idea is genius....but
those gold leafing kits are relatively cheap. check out any Art/Craft store and pick one up. Not that hard to do either. I'd practice on some other toy first though before atempting on an SB.

Thanks again for all of the positive comments everyone. I really appreciate it.
LamourSupreme is correct about the cost of a goldleafing kit. A kit can be purchased for relatively little money but there are a lot of different options in terms of material as well. You can get imitation gold leaf kits or authentic gold leaf that ranges in purity (12kt, 22kt, 23kt). There are also other options as well such as real silver, copper etc.
The trick is in the application and not wasting the material. Particularly when using the more expensive stuff! In my case I chose to use 23kt gold both because I wanted to create a symbol of sorts (see my blurb at the beginning of this post) and I had it on hand as well.
That being said, material costs would have run me about $60.00 for the gold leaf. Add to that the time needed to apply the material and the cost of the skullwing and there you have it. Although I have no intention of pumping out a whole wack of them, if anyone is genuinely interested in having one made, just drop me a pm and we can work something out. There are a few skullbrains I'm still after...
I'm just happy it's been so well received. Thanks again!

Thanks Knewnan.
I wish I could but it's still on my hit list. I guess my avatar is kind of deceiving. I love this Skullbrain but I've never seen it on YJA and when last on Ebay I noticed you were taking a swipe at it.
When the day comes though I'll be sure to take a portrait of the happy couple and post it here.
