 Virtual Vinyl Toys
I've just joined the S7 forum and have also just started a new art series called "Giant Monster Men VIrtual Toys". Inspired by vintage japanese superhero shows like ULTRAMAN and the classic animated BATTLE OF THE PLANETS series this new line of art will showcase a motley crew of colorful and far-out characters. They're called "virtual toys" because the toys do not really exist, but will soon be featured on art prints and T-shirts.

Exactly. I'd love to have the $$$ to really make these things, but whose got that kind of cash stashed away? Designing the stuff is half the fun anyway. Some of the big guys have the dough, but the little guys'll have to be content just drawing 'em I guess.

I don't get it.
Its a virtual series of stuff based on things that never existed that are concepts of older shows but not the actual show characters, just the toys and these made up toys are going to be released as prints and shirts? ummmmm really?
Thats like giving starving people virtual fruit based on wax fruit that they can print out and make paper airplanes out of, kinda pointless.

Maybe someday I'll be fortunate enough to turn these "virtual toys" into the real thing. If so, that would be great. All things start with the concept art though, and I'm just getting off the ground. Ya gotta start somewhere right? By the way, what did I do wrong, because my image did not post.

you got to post stuff in things in these [ ]
then you put img in one at the beginning then /img in the box of the last one, no spaces on anything, image link in between, that should work for you.

I kinda like the designs. I like the those cards too. interesting color palette.
keep it up. A few guys on this board are making real toys out of their designs that started out just like yours. actually...theirs were worse...just sketches.
i like this dude...

He's just using the wrong flickr image link. You have to click "All Sizes" in flickr then copy the links from those images.

Thanks for the help guys. If you'll notice, I'm from KY. We still use tin cans and string here for internet hookup so you'll forgive me if I'm a little lax in my forum technique.

Hey, that's cool. Don't see many of those 'round here. Glasgows about 50 miles SW of where I'm at.

Jeffrey - I think it's awesome what you're doing. Creativity drives all, and even if you can't see your creations made into products today or tomorrow, at least you're moving forward and creating new concepts. Good job!!

Thanks Andy. I love art and toys, and vintage japanese vinyl figures and the like are especially inspiring to me. Their style, color and creativity are just hard to beat. This is what's so appealing about SUPER7. S7 scours the world in search of this stuff and then collects it all in one neat, stylish little place. Not just the toys and figures, but art and artists too. Kudos to S7, keep up the good work!

Not beating you up but the layout/design of these look more like toys from the 90s to now. The remind me of Power Ranger villians. I do like the Space Monster one though and Id like to see what the shirts would look like.
Keep at it though

Hey Jeff I LOVE what you've done. Frankly I don't know why the fuck anybody would jump on your back for posting this. This place can really be hostile for no good reason. Anyway keep up the good work. If I may I'd like to PM you one day to design package art work for future projects. I'm a pencil and ink man from my comic book illustration days and I can't color worth shit. I like your layouts and will keep you in mind.

Hey Robert, that would be great. Believe it or not, designing this stuff is just a hobbie of mine that I'd like to make a little extra cash off of. My regular Monday-Friday, 8 to 5 job is working as an ad designer for the local newspaper (It's a fun job as well). What you see here are just the first steps in what I see as a long journey - nobody starts at the top.

I sorta like the idea - The art's medium is the hang-card (with hole, even). Just one step more meta from admiring the art of hang cards that come with actual toys.

Yeah, I've always been a big fan of package design and especially toy packaging.
It's just another form of really cool art.
