I loved that movie!
It had me from the very beginning with the heavy scoring over the landscape shots of the mountains, I was mesmerized.
My girlfriend thought it was too long though.

funny, just finished watching the flick then saw this thread...this has been happening a lot lately. Loved the film but missed chunks as it was a bootleg. I just can't go to theaters these days due to...well...people. DDL is awesome, but didn't he say he was leaving the acting game to make shoes?!
Gangs of NY though, come on. That film was fucking awful.

indeed...I was thinking during TWBB that they must have driven a dumptruck full of $$$ to his house to get him to sign on for Gangs...

banned...I got to agree that There Will Be Blood was great and if DDL does not one best actor Oscar I'll kill someone at the academy!
Don't hate me guys but the best movie should go to Juno. Seriously...this movie is better the TWBB! Believe me,I never thought I would say that.

Different strokes for sure. I love SPLASH!
And "National Lampoons Vacation", that movis rules. Beverly D'Angelo is hot! I was just talking about that movie the other day with my wife, shes never seen it so now I am on a quest to find a japanese sub version.
What about "Modern Problems" while we are on a Chevy Chase thing.

I'm totally lucky that my girlfriend lets me pick all the movies we go see, but then again she has good taste also. My last girlfriend would try to drag me to every sappy ass romantic comedy with the worst actors. I went a few times kicking and screaming but then I eventually stopped.
There Will Be Blood is on my top list of movies seen recently. That and No Country For Old Men, Control, and I'd even throw in Cloverfield. Daniel Day Lewis rules with an iron fist in the acting department IMO. My favorite all time actor. You could put him in a movie about people who pick their teeth and I'd go see it. Favorite scene in There Will Be Blood- killing a holy roller in the end. Besides I loathe that actor who plays the preacher.

SPOILER ALERT
my friend and i were discussing whether or not daniel was a repressed homosexual which could explain his hatred for everyone to some degree
he was thinking that there was a homoerotic undertone between daniel and eli... and that the final scene was a sexual climax between the two, culminating in daniel "finishing" eli with the phallic bowling pin
at the very least, daniel was apparently impotent. in the script (page 80) there was a scene cut that had daniel explaining to henry that HW was not his son... grabbing his crotch and saying "my cock doesn't even work how'm I gonna make a kid?"
in the script, daniel doesnt kill eli with a bowling pin, but rather a silver tumbler
END SPOILER

SPOILER ALERT
Is it your post or your new avatar?
It seemed to me that DDL didn't desire human contact with any adult male or female unless they were family.
He wanted to dominate the world with his oil and hatred of mankind.
DDL seemed to want respect but didn't respect anyone else.
As for the gay factor,
The preacher at the end saying a boy was quite handsome and showing no interest in the fairer sex.

i'm not even sure he wanted respect... just power. unless someone was only offering him money and power, he wanted only to dominate them
even henry seemed to be a means to an end
i'm sure it is something as allegorical as the struggle between organized religion and corporate america or something, but breaking down plainview's actual issues is fun

personally I loved the movie in spite of the dramatic ending. I actually would have felt just as satified had he done the rant, beat him out of the house, and gone back to eating that burnt steak again. end.
it was a little too melodramatic for a movie that made small things in this man's life seem like earthquakes.
The long shot scene of the oil strike and DP's son getting hurt and carried away from the gusher is one of the most amazing pieces of film I've seen in a long time, though.
DDL will win no doubt. but No Country will win best picture...Coen bros. are due, and they made an amazing film.
