From the article: "The new story moves the action to "New Manhattan," a city rebuilt by Japanese money."
I can't tell if I think that's really lame or if I think it's no big deal, but I'm tending towards lame. Still, I get the impression that DiCaprio is a smart dude who takes film seriously so hopefully this won't be another "American Godzilla."

Leo has choice art pieces.
He owns both of todd schorr's Spectre of cartoon and monster appeal. For that alone I commend him.

The image they used is from a Capcom fighting game... 'Rival Schools"
But the Capcom "Akira" is a girl

Hollywood has no ideas left at all.
I won't be paying to see this movie. Its not just that Leo has no acting chops but its just not creative to do crappy remakes or live action versions of classic Anime.
Are all to good screenwriters dead? Maybe noone can get a script read who isn't the kid of an actor director or other Hollywood legacy or a rapper. Something is fubar with the entertainment industry.

Well, Martin Scorsese got his Academy Award for "The Departed" and that was just a remake of the Asian "Infernal Affairs"... I kinda had a problem that he could get an Oscar for redoing someone else's work.

Not to mention "Infernal Affairs" was better.

Hmmm I wonder if I could go to LA and pitch Old Boy. Nah but like Nicholas Cage ought to get on that before fricking Tom Cruise beats him to it (man couldn't outact a wooden statue).

Probably. I'm sure I could think of something they haven't ruined yet but they'll likely rip it off eventually.
Who do they have stinking up Old Boy? Someone completely unsuited for the part maybe Jude Law or Jake Gyllenthal.
I'd eat like 100 live octopuses to get that gig money women VIP treatment then you can whine about how invasive celebrity is.

It warms my heart that people here recognized that Akira.
I made a post a while back comparing one of the Ryusei versions to her.

In theory I believe this can be an okay movie. I absolutely love the art and comic. I wish it would get the hardcover treatment.
One of my favorites but I don't know how it can justly be adapted to screen.

That was terrible. Almost as bad as the live action Dragonball.

I'm with you Hiro, this does suck. The best that can come of it is someone who has NOT seen the original or read the comics WILL from all this. At least 1 person.
