Right on, Hiro. Naoki even had to stay up all night to finish the 2008 lucky bags!
One other thing about Naoki's work is, because he still wants to do the painting himself, most edition sizes remain tiny. A few times a year, he'll put out a figure (usually as a store or event exclusive) in the 50 figure range, but for Naoki that's huge.
That gives me another idea. Wouldn't it be awesome to see more photos of the designers at work, with stage by stage photos showing a figure's development? Kozik has done that here. Would love to see more of that from the kaiju companies.

I am actually happy to have read all of this posts not seeing one harsh remark or fights breaking out. Thank you everyone.
As for stating your own opinion is totally fine. Depending on the thread topic, I think everyone has their own opinion. At times it's hard to tell if someone is joking or being serious of what they have said.
I think every forum, even like this, will get a response. Even if it's just one or a billion, there is always someone who thinks or feels the same or differently.

"What are you planning to do with those orbs, mister?!"
I make a more natural Nougaki but am starting to look and feel more like Ankoron LOL!

Because you chose to use the word "arrogant" in andy's defense, it appeared to be a refutation of what had gone earlier. In good faith I trust that your disclaimer is honest. Virtual beers 'round the house on me.

I dont think it was really worded right, but I think what he and a few others mean is that many times in Cronic threads people who dont care for Cronic tend to throw in their 2 cents....often. Whereas I really think you don't see that nearly as much in other companies forums.

I actually wanted to get a Kinokeruge costume together for one day of the Con...but I'd be down to kick some ass as a Zyurai is Andy's choosing the Mav...
Not that the Nougaki can't kick some mini-RxH ass...but the big guys would kill him...and god help the little tike if she/he comes across a Zag or SkullBrain...
Nougaki Soup.

Also, I guess my point was a little buried...I don't mind people who dislike Cronic posting about it (dialogue=good)...I just feel like starting any post out by throwing down a statement like that is a surefire way to get people on the other side of the coin to NOT actually read your point. I think Cronic-heads are more likely to engage in a civil dialogue if a critical post doesn't start out with a shotgun blast to the head like that...
I don't think I just made the point...refer back to what Kontact said I was trying to say...
I'm not kidding...this summer...it's a battle to the death!

really good point...no backstabbing threat from all the Cronic Brutus' out there...
I may have just committed to a costume...watch out for the ends of my pointy arms though...mine will be a LOT sharper than the vinyl version.

IMHO, there is little doubt that Cronic paint applications is definitely one of the best. I think his figures don't need to appeal to everybody hence it is ok if not everyone likes his works here.
However, if his newer figures are not as appealing as the zyurais & mavs which made him iconic, that does not mean he is falling off. There are very few artists, if at all, that i can think of who can continually create new sculpts that are more "popular" then their original iconic pieces which made them popular.
Another aspect of Cronic is the personality of Koiwa-san. If you have the chance to meet him at an event in Japan, you will know what i mean. Beside being a completely nice person, his passion towards this hobby is infectious. His insistence at perfection towards his handpaint pieces is remarkable. Listening to him describing the process of handpainting the zyurais, mavs which sometime takes 2-3 days per figure made me appreciate what i have even more.
I completely agree with andy, there is a special feeling when the artist is painstakingly painting his figures himeself. It gives me much joy just looking at the details and much more so when Koiwa-san explained why he painted the way he did.
If his sculpts and paints didn't win you over, i am sure his passion and personality will

Just caught up on all that has been posted since my last past.
Cool idea Andy re getting step by step process creating the toy like Frank has done. I hope Hiro can get something like that for a lot of the toy companies

Good points Max...all I have to add is CRONIC FKN RULES !.....and I wish even less people agreed...its damn hard enough at Cult status...we dont need CRONIC having to compromise to serve the masses.

 cronic
I dont think cronic is "falling off".
On the other hand, Cronic continues to trailblaze paint app-wise and design-wise, imho, when it came out with its new figures.
Naoki's style and skill remains topnotch.
Imagine the freedom to create without being boxed up with exclusively fight figs...or a minor change in colorway, etc.
As it is in music, progression is also constant in toy design---directions are taken, but with naoki, the way we see his creations so far, its almost a calculated and chosen path.

Three reasons why Cronic rules:
