He played at a RVCA party a few months ago for Matt Costa's record release party. It was kinda funny at first, but then it got real old!
What show were you trying to get tickets to Mutonismyfriend? I was tryin to get tix for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Last night is next week. Has anyone here seen it? I loved the stage show, and the film was a great translation of it that actually added rather than subtracted. Donovan Leitch from Camp Freddy/Nancyboy is playong Hedwig - and I hear great things about it. By the way, this stirred an interesting set of comments from everyone. I guess no one here gets Mickey Avalon - which I actually find quite heartening.

Hey Audio, I meant to say that one of the reasons I like Hedwig is that the music really stands on its own - the song "Angry Inch" is a punk rock classic in my mind!

damn...i just saw that hedwig movie. Are they real or is some other band doing the songs from the movie???
Also mickey avalon is a total doushe, he's been doin his shit for a while. A year or two back he collaborated on an album with this dood i know named metfly. Underground LA hip hop shit. Shapeshifter Affiliate, etc. I think it was called the disslexic speed readers or sumthing along those lines.
They on some of that old armenian money cocaine shit. Everyones a big ol friggin closet coke head in LA, it's scary.
Anyways yeah pretty scary to see all them tender biddles linin up to see his freaky lookin ass. I aint heard any of his music nore do I really care to but just thought i'd say he is somewhat categorized with LA underground backpack rap.

Yeah, I listened to it all. Unadventurous beats, and basic rapping, plus offneisve lyrics. I would have laughed if I hadn't seen the audience and the photos.
Rick, if you go along, you will be a minium of double the age of anyone else there. Either that will be the best, or the worst night of your life. I would imagine you would need to be "assisted" to truly enjoy it.
Oh, Hedwig was stage musical adapted for the movie, so not a real band...well, close enough as the John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig) and Stephen Trask both appear in the movie, and originated the music by performing it at NY clubs. The show at the Roxy is a performance of the original musical.
Btw, what is "backpack rap"?

backpack rap is rap that is so underground its only listened to by kids on the bus with walkmans rockin backpacks. It is usually recorded on a four track and makes you think to yourself hmmm i could totally do this. It's usually pretty gutter.
The type of rappers that rap about the watchmen comic book and shit like that. Subtitle is one of my favorites. He was signed last year to Gold Standard Lab, i think the locusts are on that label. He's the only "rapper" on an all punk label.

Seeing "Hedwig" performed live has been one the best live music/theatre experiences I've ever had. It was awesome.
The guy playing Hedwig spits water on some people in the front row, "That's a heavy metal stunt, darling". Takes another swig and drools it all over himself, "and that's punk rock, darling. It's all about where you direct your aggresion."
